Help with Brake Stickin

Hi all
Just took out my backup bike and the rear brake is now sticking. It compresses fine but when I relax the lever it only retracts to a certain point --which still rubs on the rotor. I can take out the pads and manually retract the piston further, but then it happens all over again on the first pull.
Is there anyway to clean the piston for a smoother and fuller piston retraction??
Thanks

Double check that the spring loaded piece of metal that goes in between the pads is still in there. Usually (in my experience) locked in place with a cotter pin. I lost the pin on a pair of my Hayes, and subsequently lost the piece of metal, and they weren't retracting.

If it's still in there, you could try taking the pads out, and pumping out the pistons as far as they can go and cleaning the whole caliper with alcohol. Some brands you can disassemble for further cleaning, but believe it's a challenging rebuild (never done it); meantime, other brands you can't (such as Shimano, I believe).

Good luck!

Sometimes my rear brake does this.(Hayes).
To solve, with the bike stationary, I give the brake lever an extra hard pull and that fixes it.
