Battery Storage

I recently reached out to Light and Motion on proper year round storage of batteries... Being they are half the cost of light systems this is a good piece of info... This should be relevant to all li-ion and nimh batteries regardless of the company...

Proper storage for a Li-ion battery is as follows.

Store your batteries with roughly a 50% charge, in a cool, dry location. For NiMH batteries, we suggest you run a complete discharge/charge cycle once every three months to preserve the cells, but return it to a 50% charge before placing in storage.

1. If using a multi-chemistry charger, you can leave the battery on the charger. It is a smart charger and will shut off when the battery is fully charged.
2. Store your battery in a cool place; recommend 15°C (59°F), as heat will damage batteries.
3. If you are going to store your battery for the winter, make sure you give that battery a full charge at least once a month and always store your battery at 40%-50% of a charge, not fully charged. This will maintain the life of the battery.

I hope this helps!
