Hartshorn ride this Saturday

My problem is I sweat a lot. I have gotten used to the whole spandex thing on the bike so the stuff just doesn't wick fast enough.. I get chills so easily. Have really fallen in love with the trainer but do also understand that I need to try and get out when I can. Just been using the trainer as an excuse to not go out.

The Strava link has two laps.. is that the plan? Looks like you did a pretty good pace. I may only do one lap. I RSVP'd yes on the meetup group but I will update it on Friday night once I know how late I will be out. If I get home really late I may want to join the 11am ride...

We do not have a 11am ride anymore. Just the 9am. And yeah two loops would be awesome to get the 14-16 miles in. Folks can drop out if they feel like they had enough.

Also as far as spadex goes, the more expensive, lets say a 100 dollar name brand you can get for 50-60 bucks on sale will be much more technically advanced in the way the synthetic fibers are created which will draw mosture very quickly. I, too, sweat alot and found the perl izumi long sleeve baselayer and elite long sleep lightweight jacket does the job. Also try to move and use muscle to keep warm.

I wish it wasn't so pricey. if I had to pick just 1, which would be more important to have good quality? Top or pants?

I say tops, but my...contact points...are different than yours 😱

Really though, if your "core" stays warmer, the rest of you stays warmer. In theory anyway.

Hartshorne was fun. I didn't know I was in until I got into the parking lot so never posted. Ended up seeing Alex there which was a nice surprise and met a couple other riders - I think it was JerseyTrainer and Dimitri (but please let me know if I am wrong). Also another private crew going out. They said we could ride with them which was cool but asked to sign a waiver?

I was pleasently surprised how good the trails were. Kept saying to Alex "mid December and trails are running this well?" Not much mud and very little detours - the MCPS crew did a great job clearing what was down. I hadn't ridden XC in months so was sucking wind trying to keep with Alex but had a great time. If you can get to Hart, I would soon before the freeze cycles/grease zones start coming out.

And to JerseyTrainer and Dimitri - nice to meet you 2 and good ride - hope the rest of your ride went well - sry you were dealing with mechanicals.

P.S. - Saw Knobbyhead on the way back to the lot and rustynuts when I went back for a hike with my wife. Glad some peeps were getting the goods!

Hey good riding with you. The names will be confusing. jerseytrainer is Dimitry and the other guy was Dima. I kept having the mechanical issues, not to mention I was sucking wind. Also found out when I put my bike on a rack to clean it, my front brake was rubbing hard. If i spin it by hand, it goes around just once! I think I will be tuning my bike myself instead of letting Freehold Bycycle do it for me

Ahh, gotcha - I knew your names were pretty close. But fun riding - I could tell you guys were having fun.

That front brake rub would mess you up a lot. Sorry you had to go thru all that. At least it was a nice day especially for December!

So I take it Hartshorne is good to go. Is Huber still a mess???

Hart is good... huber is good go if you stay east of browns dock road... many log run on the other side of browns dock is still bad... that said, they made some progress last week i suspect they'll make more this week

Don - I thought that was your truck! I tried to make the ride but I was late, then I discovered I had a flat and had to fix it. I did hear a bunch of talking and laughter in the trails when I was unloading my bike. I figured it was the mtbnj group, but I couldn't join the group in time.

I ended up riding by myself, but it was still fun to get out.

Bummer, would have been fun to take a tour with you.

Must have been a day for mechanicals. I had a slight one - my front fork was stuck in the 160mm setting. I usually ride Hart in the 100mm and soemtimes 130mm if there is a longer downhill. Absolutely sucked on climbs.

There were a couple groups. Woods were pretty mellow crowd wise and trails were minty like I mentioned so all in all a good day. Thanks mcp guys!

Gotta second Don's praise for the MCP's efforts in Hartshorne. CX(DH)Sean, Doug Spitz, and I were in there Saturday morning as well, and I was impressed with the clearly substantial effort that went into cleaning the place up.

We did a shortened lap of Huber as well, but even in there a good deal of work had been done.

I'm going to chime in as well. I was there late morning Saturday and could not believe how good it was. If you looked deep into the woods, you could see how bad it must have been with so many trees down. Unfortunately, I got a thorn puncture at the end of my ride!

Thank you Monmouth County Park System! Hartshorne and Huber are our favorite local trails to ride.

Was great riding with you guys. I'll be fixing and properly designing 1x9 drivetrain. Also, we have about 4 guys heading back this Saturday at the same time to Hart. The park is great and very clean and nicely hardpacked.

I will definitely be there. Can you confirm time and location. 0900 at the Rocky point entrance or the Buttermilk valley entrance?

I'll be there with Soundz and Eric Whiteboy at 9:30 in the lower lot. Prob going to get there real early for a Pre ride ride since I'm coming from over an hour away🙁. Well I say that now but will probably just stay and do an extra loop. (Used to be :40min at one time). Black Mazda 2
