So. I've been reading a lot of unrideable snow condition posts around the interwebs. At the deepest last week I was in snow up to my knees, see pic above. 100% rideable. Here's the super secret Pro Tip.

Carry one of these with you. When the bike stops because snow is too deep, remove your valve cores. Pro Tip #2 - This only works with 100mm rims and 5" tires. Anything less and you're better off buying a Plus bike because you ain't going anywhere ungroomed.

I have a ghetto tubeless set-up that has a super tight bead-seat. I haven't gone so far as to remove the core, but if I have 2 PSI, that's a lot.

What's your opinion on locking out front suspension?? I was struggling in some deep soft snow today. Not sure I could tell a difference. I was sucking with or without the fork locked-out.
 
Hmm. Not sure, I've never run suspension on the Fatty. One thing to try is keeping a position on the bike similar to climbing. Kinda low with your weight shifted slightly forward.

After breaking trail last week in a foot of snow, yesterday felt like riding hardpack. Was able to stay in front of the Mutt.
 
Picture dump from the past 6 days. We had all of the seasons.

42.5 hours on the Salsa in the last 3 weeks to get into 2nd place for a contest amongst the Test Team. Those are my non-Strava hours for those that may be interested in what my actual volume might look like. I purposely keep my actual hours somewhat hidden as to not give away all of my secrets...Some of that may change as I ramp up into ITI level training but I doubt anyone wants numbers. Numbers = Boring.
