I am looking for a i guess its called a fitness bike. my use for it would be around the neighbor hood pulling my son. i looked at the cannondale quick and trek i think FX bikes, but can justify spending the money. i have been pulling him around on an old mountain bike but think i would like one of these better. I also want to ride it on road for fitness purposes for myself. If anything let me know. I also have a i think 1982 Team fuji in good shape, if you wanted to work some kind of trade.

If the bike is mainly going to be used on the road, put some 26" (I'm assuming wheel size) road tires on the mtb. Though I'm not a big fan of them off-road, the Kenda Small Block 8 would work for the occasional trek off the street.

I was thinking about building one of these from cyclocross frame - it'd be fast and versatile. Some cross frames have eyelets for racks and fenders too, like the Trek XO and Ion CX.

I also thought about buying an older road frame with downtube shifter bosses. Then you could change handlebars from flat to drop without needing to buy new shifters.
