First time riding 6 mile!!

What an awesome place!!! I am new to MTB'ing and this place is PERFECT! We ended up riding through the red trail, except we ended up just south of the Canal Rd Lot. We thought we were on the red trail the whole time but i guess we missed that sharp left turn, and just followed the creek all the way out.

I have a few questions, where is that long wooden bridge at 6 mile? Also, when getting over a log, how do you prevent from hitting your chain? Lift up right before the log?? approach it on more of an angle?? I got over some of the small ones but had a hard time with the bigger ones. I hate to blame the bike (Fuji Odessa 2.0) but i know this could be a reason why as it is not the greatest bike.

The long bridge is on the blue trail after the fields going towards s middlebush rd.

I dont know what bike that is but it has nothing to do with not being able to clear a log. You just have to learn to get your front wheel over then lift the back. This is easier with clipless pedals but can be done with flats too. Just keep practicing. Once you get the front over unweighting the rear of the bike and pushing forward on the bars will bring the rear up.

Our first time at Six Mile today too. Great system of trails, it was a great deal of fun. My son really dug the wooden features, and was ripping it up on the Orange trail through the trees.

You will get better at logs as you ride more, then forget and learn again.

Getting rid of the big chainring (3rd) in front and replacing it with a bashguard got me where I can clear most logs I was having trouble with before.

you guys have it easy🙂...my first time was a mess back then the trails weren't as worn in and the twisty section was like the twilight zone. glad you had a blast lots of work goes into that trail system

Hey all,

I am heading up to Readington this weekend for the festival. Wanted to take the gf mountain biking for the first time and saw this place was close by.

Would this place be OK for beginners? Is it tougher/easier than Allaire?:hmmm:

Six mile is good for beginners. If its your gf first time riding she might have to walk a few spots but its an easy park to ride. Mostly flat with some short hills and a lot of turns. Readington is probably 40 min from six mile but deff worth the drive if youve never been there before.

Just watch the weather. I think theres a chance of some showers towards the end of the week and six mile doesnt drain that well. It gets real slick on the turns. Which is something you want to consider for your gf.

Good place to start can be buggy. Are you planning to get cleaned up before the festival? changing facilities and showers are a bit Rustic. If you need to sit in some a/c bar - restaurant there is a new Irish pub in Branchburg. It is next to the Quick Check on RT 22 Willie McBrides.Going west on RT22 make right at Quick Check about 100 yards down on right side.Better yet skip the traffic and parking at the festival and go straight to Willie McBrides, sit outside on the deck and watch the hot air balloons sail by.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

We're actually camping near the Voorhees Park, which I noticed is a trail sponsored here, however the thread is a wasteland (as is the trail system I assume). But as far as cleaning up we've got the campsite. Also BNL is playing at the festival so we need to check in and of course take a tethered ride on one of those things.

I think the gf will be fine. For safety purposes (her's) I'm giving her my Trek while I'm taking her 1990s Purple department store Diamondcrap. If anything, I'll be the one walking.
