So these pipeline diggers come in, cut a 50' wide path of destruction that you can see from a satellite, steal artifacts, but the boys in Bergen County Parks department won't allow a 6" wide singletrack through the woods?
I think Irene did more physical trail and fire road damage than 100 years of mountain bike riders could accomplish.
Most of the environmental damage was done by a century of iron mining and logging. I seriously doubt a few rubber tires pieces and a little bit of spewed chain lubricate could ever match that!
oh, that's lame. I saw that new right-of-way clearing and almost couldnt find the trails on the other side.
I rode dump truck for my 1st time today as well.....I definitely saw the same issue with that right-of-way clearing. (a little hard to find the continuation of the trail). I liked dump truck but was amazed to see that some sections of it look like they haven't been ridden in quite awhile. However....I also rode Rhino for the 1st time today and was blown away! Most of the tree crossings were near impossible to clear (unless you are a pro trials rider...) But the trail def. had plenty to offer for Intermediate++ rider as well.
I was attempting to find the Fish trail....but ended up riding a different section of Goat on the way down to dump truck....Oh well something for next time...:hmmm:
BTW, Dump Truck is still closed due to the pipeline. As soon as we get clearance from park management we will be addressing those issues.
Thanks for the update on that...If I saw a "closed" sign....I would have stayed away...but that explains why it didn't look like it's been ridden much lately.
It was also nice to see how most of the trail entrances and intersections were marked better than the last few times I've ridden JH..
I plan on heading to J.H. Saturday morning...is dumptruck still off limits?
no
but is not worth to go up and down the paved road for what it has to offer now. You should have plenty of fun on the rest of the park. DT is overgrown and some sections are gone due to the new pipeline.
that pipeline looks very nice looking up from Burnt Meadow Road. Too bad only ATVs use is conveniently ignored and dig up Long Pond Iron works state park at will, while bikes are not allowed, since there are tons of unmarked trails over there criss-crossing the ridge line.
