Dirt Table Tops

I have been working on my own little fun house in my woods. I have a Table top that I have made and packed very well. I still seem to sink into the dirt when I go off it. Any help with this problem would be great.

Here is a few pics of it when I was making it.

They will pack after some riding, rain, sun, rain, riding. Very nice armoring, and kind looks like a double.

I have sense filled it in and made it a table top. It is about 4 foot tall.

So time is the only thing I can do to make it not eat my tire?

if you don't want to wait, put a piece of plywood when ever you are jumping. Looks like the dirt you used is wet. I always used "Clay" looking dirt for dirt jumps. Packs much better.

You used topsoil to build with, which makes it tough to compact it. Always try to build with sub-grade soil(the dirt under topsoil 4"-6" down) it packs better.
Try to pack soil with tamper. It you dont have a tamper use the heels of your feet.

Nice. Good job using the available rocks as sides. As long as they are big and stay still that will work good.

This might sound a little on the anal side, but when building DJ's, I take out as much crap from the dirt as possible as I start getting to the final layer. Twigs, roots, and especially rocks no matter how small they are. If you can find some clay type dirt use that especially for the top coat.

Looking at the pics - get all those leaves out of the jump area. You don't want them in your dirt.

Wet it either from rain or if you can get a hose back there.

Get a wheelbarrow, fill it with dirt then go up and down the lip and landing. It'll burn your arms but gives a nice even shape. A roller will work too.

Then get a square nose shovel and slap and smear the dirt. A tamper will work if the pitch isn't too steep. Once it's dry it should be plenty firm.

This thread has lots of good pics of DJ's:

Zach Dank's and his crew's stuff is insane on mulitple levels.

Materials..

Using materials that compact should do the trick. If you are using dirt then add less and tamp more. Keep doing this until the pile is the right size. Mineral dirt only, no organic soil.

I've used rocks to make the general shape then lots of mineral dirt to complete it.

Have fun.

I got it to pack down now. Filled in the gap to make it a table and not a double. Now I just need to do it. And make a run off.

Once the dirt is semi packed, put a scrap of carpet upside down(matting up) on the takeoff. It will get you up to speed much faster. After riding remove it and reshape the lip and leave the mat off till nexttime so as the transition gets any rain that is avail...........
