Steve Tilford has a fascinating post about the conditions and lack of foresight on the part of the promoters at the Master's race at worlds (it was at a different venue than the elite.) Check this out. I can't believe that first picture is a bike!

The conditions for master's were ridiculous! I took a bike a least once a lap, and the bike, and with no power washers all that could be done was by hand with brushes and water with antifreeze.

Watching Elites was a crazy experience- the way the Belgies just rode away from our guys. We've all seen it on sporza, but to witness it first hand was amazing.

I poached the elite course on Thursday and "rode with" Sven Nys for about 45seconds. He floats over the muddy sections, and before the snow he was riding the limestone steps.

During pre-ride of the masters course the Belgian juniors were riding, so I jumped on their wheels for 3/4 of a lap. I was going probably 75% and they were going conversational pace - chatting it up, jumping little features on the course and wheelieing the start/finish straight.

They got the power washer situation worked out by Saturday's races. Here is video I shot during the Elite Men's race. Four power washers per bike provides a pretty quick cleaning.
