Commuting

Friday works for me too. I dont have to be at school til 930 so I could head south with you guys than just back North to the Bronx after we done. Let me know what you guys are gonna do.

Sorry for bailing on your Matty. I think yesterday's ride did some inflammation job on my bruise. It was hurting just lying in bed. Will have to see about Fri.

What time have you been hitting the bridge? Your Garmin page is set on Greenwich mean time. I'm off of work Friday and have time to squeeze in an early ride. I'd be down to meet you at the bridge and roll down until you turn off. Or hit up Central Park for a loop if you want to give that a shot.

gmt -5 = est (6:30am)

Matty, those NEw Yorkers don't like when someone just grabs their wheel... But who cares about that just wait until its 80, sunny and you're riding they Central Park mid morning. Then just when you thought "wow this is great" you go back thru in the afternoon and BAM the grass is like bowl of green ice cream with hot chick sprinkles all over it.

When you guys get to work in NYC where do you keep your bikes? Are you allowed to bring them into the building where you work or do you have to keep them locked up outside?

This is the beauty, My main building has a Bike locker that I built a few years ago. Just got new carpeting 🙂

You could always pay a parking garage near your building for a monthly bike space. Not ideal but its probably cheaper than paying to cross the bridge or bus everyday.

Or make nice with the security guys in your building and walk it through the front door. That may not fly though.

In for slaying some bike path tomorrow am. See you fools at the bridge :getsome:

I always park at the Historical Society. That may not work during the week tho. They started charging on the weekends, but I don't like the asshole who runs the booth so I kind of don't pay... I can find out if parking there during the week is an issue.

It's really the ONLY way I go into NYC pretty much now on weekends. It's much, much easier than sitting in the traffic.

One option is parking at the Palisades Park that's on the river. The biggest issue is then having to go up the hill to the bridge, but it's downhill on the way back... It also provides possibly a few non-carish miles down by the park if you want to just stretch your legs after riding in NYC.

I'm probably out. I think the ride on Tuesday was too soon for my leg. Gonna sit it out for another week to let it heal.

Oh memories...I loved commuting with the bike when I was working in the East Village. I'd leave my apartment in Jersey City late enough in the AM to get on the PATH in Hoboken without issue, but early enough to get into work on time. And fortunately the brass at my company didn't mind me bringing my bike into the building and leaving it in my office. Jamming myself and my schwinn into the elevator was a different story though...I didn't make any friends that way to say the least 😉

I was working in production for a TV network at the time and one of the guys I worked with (a guy named Casey Neistat who at one point had a show on HBO with his bro) sent me a video he made of himself flying through the Holland on his bike. I don't know what to make of it. On one hand it's incredibly bad a$$. On the other, I wonder how much of a traffic backup he could've caused had he bailed or gotten caught. Either way, a fun vid to check out....

When I used to commute I asked my manager if I could bRing my bike inside and store it in our huge coat closet (you could easily fit 2 bikes) instead of the outside bike rack. She was cool with it. I use a back entrance and hallway to access the hospital and since I'm rolling in at 6am nobody is there to give me shit. 2 bikes have been swiped in the last 3 years from the outside rack the video camera isn't much of a deterrent. Can't imagine working all day and worry if my bike is gonna be there when I get done work.

Week 2 and I got the last 3 days despite a horrendous cold I'm dealing with. I feel like total Dog Doo. I really struggled in today and just took it easy. Not that I felt better but I just seemed to roll on my way back. Got into the drops for full green trail to bridge and held 18+ avg in a heavy crosswind. 7 days in and 8lbs gone which is Ironic since I started this job I been watching my eating and lost nothing till I started commuting. In all I have gotten 140 miles that I wouldn't if I wasn't commuting. Prolly take tomorrow off since rain in the am is the call but if it ain't wet here that may change.

Good work on the commuting. Yeah- it's a great way to log miles and lose pounds. And save bridge tolls. Get used to that wind- there's always some wind coming off the Hudson, and never in the direction you need to go.
