Its a great road and area, but all the crazy stories are mostly BS. I've been fishing, hiking and riding off Clinton Road for more than 10yrs and nothing weird has ever happened, ever. There is a bit of a gravity hill a mile or so past the little bridge with all the graffiti, but thats just an optical illusion. There is also the remnants of an old industrial era castle and girl scout camp right near Hanks Pond, a few miles up clinton road. The coup de grace of the entire area is definetly Terrace Pond, which for those who frequent, should be treated like Fight club and that is all I will say about that. This is easily the area of NY that is most densely populated with wildlife, esp bears. The biggest bears in the state live right in that area, and some are not scared of people or dogs(personal experience talking). Munsee indians frequented the area long ago, and after that I believe there was a town called "utter town" that was flooded to make clinton resevior. There is also an awesome fire tower up you can climb on one of the ridges off clinton road. Fishing is EXCELLENT in clinton Res but its pay-to-fish only. The trails are pretty good throughout the watershed, its too bad they don't open more up to mountain bikers. The pipeline by the terrace pond lot has a pretty sweet looking downhill, I've thought about hitting up one or twice.
Lol, and now you likely know more than you wanted to know about Clinton Road. FYI, if you go and want to park off the road you must have a pass from the Watershed office on echo lake road, of Rt23.
