Camping/RVing/Vanlife thread

I own a '21 Tab320S Boondock. I've towed it with a '16 Toyota Tacoma SR5, then a '23 Ford Transit and now a '25 Ford Expedition.

What vehicle do you plan to tow with? Does it have a factory installed tow package: brake controller, 7pin wiring, receiver hitch and transmission cooler?

Indian Valley Camping Center is Souderton, PA is probably the closest dealer so you could check with them if they rent. When people on ask this question on the Nucamp FB groups, it usually is a lot of negative comments.

Here's a picture from our trip to Acadia N.P. in '24.

As of right now planning to tow with 2005 Sienna. I had a hitch installed on it a long time ago so not sure if factory tow package but it does have wiring but not sure if it will meet the requirement.

I will have to check it out.

My wife has a 2013 Sienna. We towed a 5x8 uhaul trailer home from Rochester last year. It was a bit nerve racking. A minivan is not a truck. With 4 people the trailer and a roof box we were definitely maxed out. We had enough power but the handling was sketchy.

You may want to look into a Nucamp T@G. Your Sienna would probably be alright towing that since it's dry weight is <1,700lbs and GVWR of 2,200lbs. The T@B 320 dry weight starts around 2,000lbs and GVWR of 3,000lbs. Most people will recommend a minimum towing capacity of 3,500lbs for a T@B 320, but 5,000lbs is generally better.

On the Nucamp FB groups I follow, almost daily someone is asking about towing with a vehicle that probably shouldn't and there's always someone saying "I do it and it's fine." Usually a Subaru Outback owner or Toyota Highlander/RAV 4 owner.

Yeah, I am concerned about the towing capacity and towing the trailer. The Sienna is at the shop with check engine/vsc/traction light on and with 245k miles on it I might have to rethink about spending money on fixing it or using the money towards something else (van/suv/truck) depending on the repair bill.

I was searching for used trucks but the price is out there 😳.

Edit: Visited the Philly RV show on Saturday and the dealers kept saying you will be fine with the Sienna or Forester which left me scratching my head since the towing tools on their website seems to indicate that I might be pushing my luck based on the weight.

I was at that show early Saturday morning as well. We're looking to upgrade in '27. Assuming you looked at the Nucamp models there? Most of those guys will tell you you're fine, same with car salesmen when questioned about towing capacity.

This is a very good tool for determining towing capacity. https://towcalculator.app/
