Bulldog Rump

How did you do at KVSP? Tell us your story.

I feel wiped out, someone remind me next year not to race in July.

Congrats to newest MTBNJ cyclist Kristine Contento-Angell for her 2nd place finish in the State Championship.

came in 5th in cat2 SS.

I put MANY road miles in my legs this week and haven't raced/rode my MTB much at all this year but still Had a fast, fun race...ate a little shit on a short DH section and rode how I thought I would.

That was a popular shit eatin spot, i have the cuts on my arm to prove it.
Ride your bike faster so u can upgrade to cat 1, i only see u coming and going these days.

I was riding with dudeman that finished 4th and slipped on a root. Since he was on my heels and rode it clean I let him pass. I didn't run ahead and throw my leg over and block him He was too close and that's not how I roll 🙂. But after that I slipped on my pedal and he disappeared so I panicked and took some Super-D chances and failed...cause I suck.

Congratulations Mr. Clapp! And to all the others who podiumed- and finished!! I had a tough time out there with the humidity and slick rocks, but finished (CAT 2- 40-49). Course was in pretty good condition, rocks and roots are always slick at KVSP, and especially today with the recent rains and multitude of bikes sailing over them. I did see one guy go over the bars just before the grass meadow leading to the other side of the park. Fell pretty hard but was ok. Another guy, whom I met in the parking lot and chatted, went off into the woods and crashed pretty hard. He seemed ok, but I'm sure he'll be sore tomorrow. My bike gave me fits shifting to the little ring at the most inopportune times, so climbing the few hills was a chore, but for the most part made it.
All in all a fun day, despite the thick stagnant air. Saw a lot of familiar faces, most of them still smiling after the event. Good times!

I raced. I mean, I rode during the race. Finished 22nd out of 27 in Cat 2, 30-39.

That was as close to quitting as I've ever come. After working dayshift the last three days and obviously not drinking enough (I never do at work), I knew halfway through the first lap that I was toast. I've never had stomach cramps and kidney pain before. I had to back way down and just cruise. By lap three I was getting dizzy and lightheaded. Had there been a fourth lap I'd still be laying in the weeds out there praying for my own death.

I usually do okay with the heat but I dropped the ball yesterday. I realized I cannot adequately hydrate less than 12 hours before a race like that. I finally feel better today after napping on the couch all last evening. I nearly called my medic friend and had her start an IV last night.

Congrats to Kristine, Clapp, and ChrisG on their solid finishes!

3rd place CAT 1 30-39

Lined up second row knowing there is plenty of room to pass. After the start I felt pace was too slow so made a move on the left side. Took the lead into the woods. I stood up and hammered the first hill to see if I could create a gap. Didnt happen. Eased up and let a few by. Entered singletrack 3rd or 4th. Spent rest of lap trying to keep pace and get heart rate down.
Felt recovered by second lap so started to up the pace. Caught my buddy Jeff on the 3rd lap and he let me know that 3rd place wasn't far ahead. Caught him (Frank from Marty's) at the road section by the airport. Snuck up on the right side before the left hander by the barn. He looked back right before the turn but I was in his blind spot. I hammered it past and up that first rise to the old foundation. Kept the pace high up to the single track to form a nice gap. Rode the rest of the 3rd and the 4th lap clean. Never got close enough to see Jared whom was in second (who later told me he saw me) but gave chase up until the finish.
Thought the course was great. Fun doing such fast laps and getting to see spectators so many times. Great job by all who came out! It was pretty brutal just standing in the field let alone racing! Thanks Team Bulldog!

Sounds like most had some fun in the heat yesterday. We hope you enjoyed the course and got home to get cool. It was certainly hot out there running the race and even hotter when the race got going. We should have results up soon. We'll keep you posted as soon as they are ready.

Good stuff Bulldogs; I would be lying if I said I enjoyed myself, but that isn't your problem 😉

Event was well oiled, course was short and difficult to race on for sure. I think the short courses are a thing of the future; More spectator friendly for sure.

EDIT: Just happened to load up facebook at the right time: http://www.teambulldog.com/racing/2013-results

I'd like to personally thank all the out of state guys that raced in my field, enabling me get 4th in state and closest I've been (or will be) to a podium since upgrading last season! Ha! Course was a great mix as always at Kitt. That last climb the 4th time around was brutal. Nice little pay off though with the downhill that followed to the start line. (Could have done without that little slick rock single track at the beginning of the laps though. Cramped hard there last lap)
Good luck to those going to Nat'ls. Hope to see everyone at 909 in a couple weeks.

I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to put on a great race. I hesitated quite a bit to do the race and almost backed out last minute. I haven't gotten the chance to ride much this season due to a crazy work schedule with riding only about a handful of times last month and then yesterday's race was my fourth time this month. It was my first race this season and only being my third ever. I guess I'm a gluten for punishment and decided to try to step it up to cat 1 after doing two cat 2 races last season, and of course in 90 degree weather. I had the opportunity to be humbled and see how amazing the pro woman riders are, as well as see other local women who can just rip up the terrain around here. It was a close race for cat 1 but I can't complain about 2nd place finish and then was shocked to find out that it was also the state championship race as well. It was an awesome day and now I have the racing fever.

It was an interesting race for me as I drove 37.5 hours home from Yellowstone and arrived on Friday to help setup the race Saturday and then work the race and actually compete yesterday. It was a little insane but that's usually how it works for me. I realized just how stagnant my legs where when the drag race went off at the whistle and shortly thereafter found myself in last place. By the end of the first lap my legs actually arrived at the race and I started to get into my rhythm and actually pick off racers. I felt good after that point and wished for about four more laps. If only...

Many thanks to the Bulldogs for putting on this race, it was a blast as always.

And getting a NJ State Champs bronze was a nice little bonus, certainly. 😀

Looks like it was a great race again this year. I wanted to race this after last year crashing hard on 1st lap and 2nd lap chain broke. Although I missed this I enjoyed my Colorado trip.
