im sure there will be a notice for help and since ive only ridden once here i dont frequent long threads maybe make a new thread when the install date comes near? id love to help

Well if they lug it in from middlebush over the clearing it wouldn't be THAT bad to get it in, but getting it to that spot would be a chore.

I also am curious as to what "heavy machinery" they will use to get it there... My guess is they will drag it along the trail from the parking lot on Middlebush

I think we can coax the bear into helping if we sacrifice a small farm animal or 26er rider 😉

a 26er rider is an endangered specie now so lets sacrifice another kind... one less... nobody will mention 😀😀😀

Glad to hear this is happening. Really hate that I'll miss the bridge building though!

Great job J & J on getting this thing presented to and approved by the park.

soooo if they "place a bridge over Six Mile" what the hell singletrack are we going to ride?

Silly Manny..... Six Mile Run is the name of the tributary. 😉

Six Mile Run derives its name (along with other area streams including Mile Run, Three Mile Run, Nine Mile Run, and Ten Mile Run) from the distance early surveyors estimated it was from the point where the historic King's Highway (now Rt. 27) left the Raritan River at New Brunswick to the point the roadway crossed the stream. The estimates were not very accurate but the stream names have remained in use ever since.

Interesting. There is a 5 mile run just down the street from my house.

Can we officially call BS on the $80k price tag this bridge was estimated as having?

I'm just interested to see where exactly and how this bridge will be placed cause we all know about that deep steep runoff at the river crossing

Well, i wouldn't call BS...The bridge is not in place yet. 😱 I'm not sure who quoted $80k. $35-$50 wouldn't surprise me though.

Due to the complexity of the location, I would expect a study to be done. Then design and construction by a legit construction contractor. Our volunteer efforts will consist of cleaning up the trails around the bridge after the construction is done.

All of the previous posts back to the original JORBA announcement are very vague. All we know so far is that some amount of money has been allocated to address the water crossing near S. Middlebush Rd. What the result will be, who is doing it, how much it will cost, and the level of volunteer involvement is a complete guess from anyone not directly involved.

I expect that my feet will be getting wet for quite a while longer. 😱

Apparently they found a way around the red tape usually associated with this type of installation. The 80k was a total estimate for all the work, including environmental assessments, etc.

Well, I think the DE trailspinners have shown what can be done with big bridges and a bunch of volunteers. Granted, I don't see those bridges in quite the flood plain we are talking about here, but nonetheless, definitely something to look at and see that it's possible.

When the details get squared away on this, we will send a crew up from the shop for sure.
