Bike Theft Caught On Video in LA

Here's an interesting video of a dude taping an attempted theft of his locked bicycle outside a shopping center in or around LA. And NO ONE helps out the victim. Useless security guards.

If you have the time, read the OP's and visitors' comments below. You feel for the victim but you also wonder if he's just a paranoid dude.

that is so messed up .. looked through a few comments and looks like the guy at least got some action to be taken although not as much as you'd like :

Filmed on a Kodak Zi6 attached to my messenger bag. After the video I called and waited 45mi after several calls for police to respond. LBPD officer watched video and blew it off. Said if I was afraid of him he could arrest him for terrorist threat, but since...

Got forwarded to Ramone Agular in Councilman Loenthal's office where it lead to LBPD taking the video as evidence to charge the perp with something when he gets out of lockup. Where he is now for bike theft.

My concern is with the older security guard clearly working with them. LBPD said they would investigate him, and that he should be fired. I rode by him yesterday, he's still there. All they need to do is dump his phone and look for ties to know offenders.

So I think I basically got lip serviced. Turns out the only real currency these days is Public Relations. LB is concerned about it's image to a point so the more eyes view this the more chance there is of Lowenthals's office making enough noise to get the criminal culture turned around. Get the Plat security guard fired... Plat security is owned by an X LBPD BTW...

Nice gold teeth!

The security guys where either in on it or were simply letting a brotha be!

If I caught someone like that messing with my bikes I would end up in Jail for doing ungodly damage to the perp.

That guy is all sorts of crazy....I read his comments apparently he's being gang stalked (wtf does that even mean?) and everyone is in cohoots...all because of social networking.

yea just read that stuff .. politically motivated stalking stuff is over the top .. but bike theft is bike theft and appearance of security officers and walmart employees collusion is pretty messed up

Definitely feel for the guy. And have to give him props for having the cojones to step up to this (possible) gang member. But yeah, after reading some of his comments, you kinda get the feeling that he's got some paranoia issues. Maybe it's all true though, who knows? Plus, if he wasn't paranoid, he'd never have gotten the attempted theft on tape.

This guy seems like a loon to me. Sorry but I gotta call it like I see it. He's probably lucky he was able to ride away.

Agreed 110%.

Screw the macho shit. I would have let the guy take the bike. I have a wife and two children. I would not mess with someone brazen/crazy enough to steal a bike in broad daylight like that. Just not worth it...

I do see where your coming from with the wife and kids, but I would have to disagree. If I walked out and saw that guy stealing my bike he would of been choking to death on his gold teeth in a matter of seconds. The only way that bullshit like this is going to stop happening is if people start sticking up for themselves. I really think that it's completely ridiculous that everyone is so scared of these gangster wannabe idiots, they bleed just like everyone else.:getsome:

agree.

as Im watching it Im thinking "this guy is nuts".

he is very lucky. perhaps having the camera saved his ass.

at most, he should have just taken his bike and gotten the hell out of there.

but he kept pressing!! calling for SOMEONE ELSE to call the cops, for OTHERS to step and do something, telling the guy he wants his [now broken] bike lock back AND compensation for the lock. wtf?

who, in their right mind, would do that under those circumstances?

at most, take your bike and go home.

lucky to be in one piece.

...and then to put that on the web?

seriously, does he have a death wish?

Having the camera didn't save anybody's ass. The camera was strapped to his messenger bag and they didn't know they were being filmed.

Way to go trashing the guy who stood up for himself. Regardless of what you think of him, the man has balls.

Need summary execution, commissar style

"having balls" and "being nuts" are two different things.

he could have stood up for himself, taken his bike and gone home. that alone would have taken major balls. no doubt. and he certainly deserves kudos for standing up for himself.

but he kept persisting, even after it was blatantly obvious that no one (even the "security guards") was going to do anything and even after it seemed clear that the perp was NOT going to stop him from taking his own bike and getting out of there. he kept the situation going. he did more than just stand up for himself and THAT is what was nuts in my humble opinion. he certainly did nothing wrong. he was the victim. but sometimes you have to realize the situation (in this case - take your bike and go home)

and then the comment about shooting people (over a bicycle!)....sorry, the guy's a bit nutty.

re: "way to go for trashing a guy" - hey HE is the one that chose to put this on the internet, thus his actions are open for comment!

Obviously you don't watch the news or read the paper. The gangsters where I live might be idiots, but I wouldn't call them wannabes. You must be a bad man! Either that or i hope you have a concealed carry permit.

This guy stood up for himelf and then took it to another level. If he would've gotten beat up he wouldn't have been wrong in a legal sense, but in common sense...?

I was thinking fake too. If it was a real gang banger that guy would've been shot. If it was me I would've rode right away when tupac told me to.

Assuming it's real, I doubt the thief is a gangbanger. Do they even care to steal bikes? One of the commenters says he knows who the thief is and he goes to a nearby city college.

apparently the guy goes to a college near by. they need to look on facebook or something for this dude. gangbangers are on facebook, dontcha know
