Bike fitting

I know this has been a topic before but I cant find the discussion. I am coming up with a few pains while riding lately (lower back pain, numbness in fingures, and neck wich I have anyway) If I were to have someone custom fit the bike to me will allevite some of this pain. Or is bike fitting just tweaking the bike to where it feels comfortable to you? It is bad enough that Tiger Woods kicks my ass so I dont need any additional issues. How much is a bike fitting? Any help I greatly appreciate as allways.

A bike fitting can help with the issues, by putting you more upright & changing the stem/handle bars to compensate. That's probably more masking the issue of the back/neck pain though.

the finger numbness, I heard, that applying too much pressure to certain areas of the palm can cause this (I tend to get this on my road bike more than my mtb).

A bike fitting is a good place to start...

Pricing varies from shop to shop, so just give a good local shop a call and see. Figure on $100-150 for a complete fitting, though there may be less expensive alternatives depending on the shop and how bad your machine currently fits you. I know of instances where an experienced shop guy just looks at somebody on a bike, says the "xyz" is way off, and the only cost was the parts/labor to fix xyz. It wasn't a "fitting" when you're measured up and spend time spinning on a static trainer on your bike, but sometimes that is all it takes.

You'll find the good shops have guys that are pretty passionate (and quite dedicated like J @ Halters) to get your bike fit properly and helping you work though numbness/pain/discomfort issues. They seriously want to enjoy riding your bike, even if you didn't buy the bike from them.

They'll also be able to make suggestions as to what else you can do once the bike is fit properly and they can see you on it. Similar symptoms are caused by different things for different people.

Good luck.

Thank you for the replys. I should save up a couple dollars and take a ride over to Halters. I was over there once when I was buying a bike. I was torn between a Giant and a Cannondale. They had the Giant I baught the Cannondale. Love the thing but if I can make it better to ride longer why not.

you can also check if you're roughly in the ballpark by using some of the online fitting calculators (of which there are many). Obviously not as good as getting down to a good shop, but may be a starting point. Wrench science has one thats ok that i know off.
