What's the lift-serviced riding like at Grand Targhee, DH like Diablo or XC bike friendly?

edit: answered my own question, might put it on my to do list for this summers roadtrip.

I is not just the parks

Bears are becoming problem in peoples back yards. I have to invest in some bigger trash cans now that my kids saw one in our yard.
 
Bears will always be a problem. Use bear bells, carry a whistle, when you see one beat it and blow, keep blowing as you're riding so they know which way you're headed.

BTW, my wife and several friends have seen the mountain lion. I believe it's real. If you find a deer carcass in the trees you'll know for sore.
 
I was running in the Muddy Marathon at the Craigmeur Recreation Complex in Rockaway on Saturday, during the race a bear came up by one of the trash cans near the pavilion area. I thought I heard people yelling bear, but figured I was just hearing things at that point until after the race when it was confirmed.

An interesting article.Yet this article is from 2006 and still no pictures of this Mountain Lion.I think it would be pretty cool/frightening to see one in NJ.But in this day and age when EVERYONE has a camera phone, we should have seen at least a dozen photos of said animal.Until then this is Urban-Legend material:popcorn:

You are talking about an animal with well above keen senses as any other animal out there. Sight, sound and smell are above any that you can imagine, they fear human so they will not let you see them. You certainly are not walking up on them, so only possible chance maybe cycling. They are here as scat and sightings have been seen. Ask any local farmer around here if they think they exist. Off of shades of death road it's know to now have a pair of mating mt. lions with young. Ask yourself Does NJ wildlife want this out to the public? I personally seen one live and one hit on rt. 80 at allamuchy. Yes they are here and wouldn't be surprised that some were put here to control deer population.
 
I was at the cherry ridge range (borders waywayanda) and two of the guys there saw a mountain lion dragging a deer across the road to the range early one morning.
I work with some of Newark watershed, one of the guys who operates the lakes up north saw one running across the road (rt 23) in the morning. It was near Clinton road.
My friend Nate saw one in Frelinghuysen, near Blairstown.

I saw one in Denville a couple of years ago. I got a good look. There isn't anything you could mistake it with if you are close. There isn't any doubt whatsoever that mountain lions are in NJ. I'm one of many people who've seen them.

do it for no other reason than the view of the tetons at the top. It's nothing like diablo. More like lift service at snow or killington. there's also some xc at the bottom.

lots of great riding right out of town in jackson hole on the pass between driggs and JH. It helps if you have two cars to shuttle.
 
Gotta love the mom and two cubs when their in the trail in front of you at Diablo. Not like they will do anything, nice to see around though.
 
I have two very reputable friends that have confirmed mtn lion sightings. I know they are out there. I can't wait till I actually have the opportunity to see one(going the other way 😀 ) Hell, Lynx or Bobcats have been in the area forever and I finally saw one last year. That was a pretty big cat. I was impressed when I saw it. I can't even imagine how I'd feel seeing a mtn lion. I know my first thought would not be to reach for my camera.
 
Guy I was hiking with a few weeks ago had to seperate his dog from a coyote in Hilltop Reservation.
Okay seriously, the tree hippies have won, nature is back and it's scaring me.

Yup, all of us near the Tourne here in the hub of Morris County call her Bad Betty. She's one ornery, nasty mountain lion. I've seen her walk right down the middle of the Rattlesnake Trail and make everyone leap out of the way to safety. Probably half of all the regulars at the Tourne have scars and bite marks from encounters. I myself am missing an eye, a child and two dogs all because of her. You don't mess around with Betty.
