Any triathletes here?

I'm shifting focus for next year to triathlons and I was just wondering if there were any others among the MTBNJ regulars. Any events in the region that I should put on my calendar or any I should avoid? I'm planning on Olympic distance, but open to sprints or maaaybe a 70.3 if I can figure out this running thing.

I've been toying with the idea myself.. I've been running and cycling, starting in Nov I may join a gym with a pool and start swimming. Depending on how I do with the swimming and if I can put it all together, I may try a sprint towards the end of the 2015 year.

Please keep us posted on your pursuit. I will enjoy reading the evolution...

forget swimming - mt man biathlon (it is a duathlon, cause nobody is shooting anything) is coming up. at lewis morris just before halloween

race director stated "enter the woods beyond those picnic tables" last year. a good number of people ran over the tables.....no bike license, no usat license, and they serve beer afterwards, and raffle off a bike, and give away stuff!

costumes are encouraged, as in minimal coverage...

I don't do tri's, but my wife does and I've been a spectator for most. This one is definitely unique. She did the sprint '13, International '14 and probably registering again this year. http://delmosports.com/escape-the-cape/. Delmosports also has events in AC and WWood.

New to North America in 2014, http://challengeatlanticcity.com/, will be held again in 2015 and is a 140.6. Swim in the bay, ride the AC Expressway to Hammonton, 2 loops around Hammonton, ride back, run the Boardwalk. Heard that a 70.3 option may be added.

This was just held last weekend. http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ironman-70.3/princeton.aspx#axzz3E4GBS3JN

Good luck,

Thanks for the heads up, JDurk! I just registered for Escape the Cape. (On a side note, bike races are a bargain compared to triathlons!)

The races I'm planning at this point are:

May - ???
June - Escape the Cape
July - NJ State Tri
August - off
September - Ironman 70.3 Princeton
October - ???

Seem reasonable? Any suggestions for May and October?

Bike racing is definitely a bargain. My wife just registered for Ironman Chattanooga for next September and Escape the Cape this week.

Ironman Kona World Championships are in October.

Here's a couple more promoter sites:

I have been doing Tri's for several years. The NJ State Tri is a must do and I see you have it on your list already. If you are looking for something in May, you may want to check out Xterra off road Tri's. http://www.xterraplanet.com/races
They have one called King of Hill in Round Valley in May. The bike portion is Mountain biking, I believe 10 miles.
If you're trying to figure out the running thing, check out a book called "Chi Running" It has some good advice on running form. Bad form and too much too soon is a good way to ruin your running experience!!

Yes, I did them for 18 years,,,,,lots of work, very expensive entry fees.. I stopped about 5 years ago,got too too expensive.

Are there any tri clubs in the Princeton area? The only ones I've come across so far are defunct or women-only.

Any suggestions on where I could try on wetsuits over the winter and find one that fits well?

I am not sure if there are any tri shops in the area that would let you test drive a wet suit. I do think that there are some online suppliers that will let you try one.
We got my first one gently used on ebay pretty cheap. I just used the measurements given and took a leap of faith.
