Acadia National Park

Chris and I just got back from a week in Bar Harbor Maine. We has spectacular weather, which is the least that maine could do. The past two times we have been, it rained every day.

Not this time!!!

We brought mountain bikes and road bikes. Our cottage was just two miles from the entrance to the park, so we really took advantage of the close proximity to get some good rides in. The park loop is an amazing ride. I do not know that I have ever actually enjoyed road riding more.

It is a ridiculously long drive to get there, but very worth the trip.

I have a few video clips that I will post as well.

You will have to pardon the heavy breathing. In the first clip, I am riding uphill, holding my camera with one hand, and trying to talk and breathe. Does not sound like much, but if you knew about my road biking skills, you would understand😛

Heading there in a few days with the family. I am hoping to ride some of the easier carriage roads with the family and to get out on my own to hit some trails in the early morning. I am glad you posted these pics, thanks. 🙂

Climb Cadillac

Climbing Cadillac Mountain is rewarding, too. It's a bigger climb than you can find in NJ, but not awfully steep. Try to ride it early in the day before the wind picks up. Time I did it I struggled up the last couple pitches into a 25 mph headwind.

I haven't been there in like 20 yrs but I have always wanted to go back.
I actually enjoyed the heavy breathing personally. You could have talked a little less...😀

I'm heading up there with the family this weekend. Cant wait. A Team Town Cycle buddy and his girlfriend are meeting us in Acadia. Hopefully my wife can keepup.

The local bike shop in Bar Harbor (just as you enter town) has guide books with a wealth of information on the best road rides, carraige road rides, etc. They also have cue sheets for popular club rides in the area.

Is there any mountain-bike riding in Acadia? Or is it mostly road riding (and carriage roads)?

Unless you can find something on private property, there is no mountainbike access in Acadia. There are a few pockets of private property on the peninsula but I was unable to find anything. The local bike shops confirmed as much (or were holding back). The carraige roads are it. They are nice for a good workout and for sightseeing, but not much in terms of mtb-fun-factor.

There were a ton of roadies up there during the first week of August. Some brave souls even tackled the Cadillac Mountain access road in the mid-day heat.

I'll give it (Cadillac Mountain) a go when I'm up there next Wednesday. Going to Acadia (for Road riding) via Kingdom Trails (for mtn-bike riding). Hope I don't blow my legs trying to get up Cadillac via my road bike's compact double. Kudos to you, Rocknrollgirl for the uphill camera work! That's quite a feat --- what were you doing, climbing uphill with one hand while operating the camera with your other??! Nice! Thanks for posting the videos & pictures.
