909 Challenge

I loved this course last year... Bummed I've got to miss it this year. I'm attending the wedding of the flower-girl from my wedding 20+ years ago....

This is how I see it. If you take Stewarts fun features and draped it over this years Lewis-Morris race course, you got 909. Have fun....

Has some shale like Stewart but a tad more hilly and flows real nice. It has the coolest long downhill! One of my favorite places to ride. It is worth a longer drive IMO.

Calling for rain Sat and Sun... For me its 5 hours of driving for 45 minutes of racing. If I rip the chip off after lap 1, do you think the CAT1 guys will know I'm a Cat3 guy doing a second lap?

Maybe try to get a little more riding in...

Ah, I see what you're doing here.... Bringing back to your "Mandex" thread.

Move up a cat & double your riding enjoyment (or suffering).

Thanks for all the info. Whatchay'all think; FS or HT?

I normally always say FS because that's how I roll but I think you'll be totally fine with a HT here, especially if its a lot lighter. There's a bit of climbing and the downs are not overly techy.

I was on a FS 26ER last year and was planning to use my 29HT. Bring whichever you like riding more. You'll be fine either way.

i really enjoy racin taconic. there is some climbin, but you are definitely rewarded on that sweet descent. 😀 hardtail is the way to go there.

I'm ok with you out there. Cat 1's are all pretty cool with sharing the love.🙂

Anyone know whether the course will be marked Friday? Or it the same as races past? Anyone have a Garmin file or is anyone pre-riding Friday?

I do not know what it is about this course, but I always have a fun race at 909. I feel like the course does not favor my strengths, but I enjoy it so much that I rise to the occasion. Today, in the last few miles of my race, I probably had the worst leg cramps ever in my years of racing, and still had a good time. 🙂

Anyone else?

Hey Ellen I feel the same way!! I bent my granny ring about 50ft in so raced the whole thing in my big ring, the fast flowy parts made me smile 🙂 but the ups hurt.

Other than sliding out on the roots 5 or 6 times and going off course it was fun.
I usually excel in wet conditions but I was just really off today.
Too much air in my tires didn't help either, but that's my own dumb fault.

Bruised and Battered.... Should be the Taconic 911

I think this course was very much like Blue Mountain when it comes to climbing, rocks and techy stuff. The wet conditions make it super slippery for me. My tires pressure was too high and my stem and handlebar setup was way too forward and low causing me to be very clumsy. From the first mile, I knew I was in trouble when my front wheel was washing out on everything, especially off camber rooty and rocky turns.

On the climbs, especially with rocks, I was spinning the back wheel like crazy.

I ate sh!t real bad on one of the fast and flowy desents which took the fight out of me. It was like a slow motion super man @ about 20 - 25 mph which then turned into a hard roll off my left shoulder and arm. I must have slipped several times on silly little techy rocks / root thingys which cause me to fall and bang up my legs and arms.

By the time I got to the final decending sections, I was defeated and riding very defensive and stiff because I didn't want to fall anymore. I just wanted to make it back to in one piece.

Taconic won this one...
