650b

the tire size comment is pretty interesting. the 650b i'm demo'ing is on 2.3s which i have to think is still going to net out larger than a 26" on 2.5s. that said, i bet it ain't that far off.

Yeah, and different tires makers have different sizes too (like a Maxxis 2.5 isn't as big as my Kenda 2.5). My rig is at Kranky otherwise I would take a diameter measurement.

What color is your bike and how did you build it up? I'll have to keep an eye out for you when I'm healed up enough to ride again. Also, you have 2.5's on it? I have High Roller II's in 2.4 and its a tight fit. Tight like a tiger.

- Flat Black frame
- Fox 36 Talas that is old and the travel adjustment doesn't work anymore
- Blue Hope hubs to Stan's Flow EX's
- Shimano 1x10 - cranks, rear cog, der (XT, STX)
- Hope brakes M4's in the back and an old Hope something up front for now
- Deity 28" wide bars
- SDG I-Beam post and seat (might go Reverb or the like at some point)
- 2.5 Maxxis Minion DHR TR in the rear (and it has plenty of room)
- 2.5 Kenda Nevagal up front (tubed for now but will be tubeless when my new front wheel is done)

I Am in so-cal this week and I had another chance to ride a trance 27.5 last night.

I still missd the 29er , but mostly I missed the dyad rear shock in my trigger and the lefty max. The trigger goes from 130mm to 80mm of rear travel on the fly. I was ready to flip that switch a bunch of times. Wish the trance had one.

My wife was on a small trance 27.5 too. She said that she very much missed her scalpel 29 for the speed and rollover. At 5-4" I thought we might have different responses. In the end we both thought that while these are good bikes, we would still prefer 29ers....

I think this is somewhat of a biased opinion. There is the potential for serious household tension if something other than 29er crept into the garage.

It's easy. Small bikes should come with 26" wheels, Medium's with 27.5, and Large bikes should come with 29" wheels.
Any other setup is a compromise, sometimes it's worth the compromise for you though. Like medium racing hard tail, 29.

Wait a second, I thought bigger wheels were all about rolling over stuff, not fit. When did it become about fit?

since we haven't beaten this topic to death *yet*, i figured i'd bring it back up.

been demo'ing a trek remedy 650b for the past few days and have about 30 miles on it on pretty varied terrain. at this point i'm back to being sold on 650b for a do it all ride. not that i don't think the other wheel sizes have their place, but for a nimble FS that still has some roll to it, i'm in.

nah, not a trek move, especially since they already have 650b/27.5 in market. specialized does not and would absolutely create a new proprietary wheel size with "added benefits"...then sue everyone.
