6 Mile Run Conditions

Anybody happen to ride 6 Mile today? I walked Chimney Rock and things were kinda soupy - hoping there wasn't as much snow at 6 Mile so maybe things would be drier. I'd go during the day and the weather will be above freezing for sure.

Rode 6MR on Friday and there was no snow on the trails but they were saturated, a few puddles and there was a little snow in the woods. It was frozen when we started at 7:30but by 9am was starting to thaw. With these warm temps it's gonna be a NO-GO until the next freeze.

Perfect conditions if you like:

Riding with 40+ lbs of mud caked on your bike

Destroying your drivetrain and speeding up the wear cycle of your parts

Leaving deep rutted trenches behind that will certainly freeze solid for the rest of the winter

Widening the trails since no one wants wet feet this time of year.

I feel your pain, nothing worse than irresponsible riding screwing up the trails.....especially ones you help make possible.

What really makes my day is the guys who bring in their mud caked, broken bikes straight from 6mr.

Just saw a post on the NJ Mountain Biking Facebook group on Six mile. Somebody posted up a pic of one of the new arched bridges with mud smeared all over it.

Hopefully my post will make people think twice before heading out to 6MR.

We discussed this last year - we gotta get some Stay off the muddy trail signs up there...

Since Mr. Pearl called me to the plate... I am suggesting some action. I will get these made up.

Contributions welcome. I am open for edits, suggestions, and criticism. Only looking to help and not step on anyone's toes yo.

Hopefully some folks will help put these up.

I suggest we post these at all the trail heads.

Since these sections are exposed to the Sun they are probably worse. Plus the rain a few days ago and the lack of freeze it's best to head some place else
Yea convinced everyone to go elsewhere. Been a while since I've been to 6mr. Its no fun in the mud. 😛

Nice work Rich, I too think we should just make it something about being self conscious. Looks sharp!

Sadly I don't think you have any way to make this a official sign, so it would have to be under the radar in terms of putting it up. I feel like I remember Jay saying he has been trying to do something like this for a while.

I also saw that ridenox.com website, got me thinkin :hmmm:
