3D computer modeling

Arwen's Mom

Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains
Any one here knowledgeable in 3D modeling? My son has a project to work on, but is VERY new to it, just learning the basics and he could use some tips. He is basically trying to teach himself at this point. Any one want to give him a few pointers? If so, PM me and I can give you the details.

Thanks 🙂

What program is he using? Sketchup is great for getting into 3D modeling. It's a quality program, it's free (not $10000000 like most programs), and there are a lot of youtube tutorials available. http://www.sketchup.com/

We use Solidworks in my office for tooling design and part drawings. When I need something done, I usually ask one of my younger coworkers since they all used Solidworks extensively in engineering school. This allows me to focus my time on responding to forum posts on MTBNJ. The Solidworks built-in tutorial is pretty decent for getting an intro to the program.

I've been known to do this on a daily basis for the last 20ish years. Autodesk Inventor and Mastercam Solids here.

Thank you for your replies.
When I told my son of your replies he said he wanted to attempt this himself. Seems I was a tad presumptuous asking for help for him 😳😕

Working with 3DS Max and Cinema 4D, if that is the direction he goes. Feel free to ask if he runs into problems.

i would suggest creo elements/direct, its still free and more powerfull than most other free alternatives that i have used, it is basically a restricted version of creo which is a very good professional level SUITE of 3-d cad software including analysis modules.
