My 9 year old is telling me that he has outgrown BMX racing and is looking to xc mountain bike riding, and some downhill.
My problem is he is a better rider than I am technically and I need a group to send him with. Any suggestions?

John is 8 and has missed some big part of his BMX season this year. Jorba's trails and events have been great.
Thank You.
Our first time at Six Mile today too. Great system of trails, it was a great deal of fun. My son really dug the wooden features, and was ripping it up on the Orange trail through the trees.
You will get better at logs as you ride more, then forget and learn again.
Stopped at Halters for ride advice, got some great help.
Jorba has given us great weekends all month.

Rock and Ride
I am the father of the 8 year old who was wearing racing gear. Brett has been around for a long time and does a great job with the camera and the pen at local BMX events .

BMX NJ published coverage and an excellent photo album from Rock n Ride 2011.
I have concern about weight, of course. He is riding a 14lb race bike now. We looked at small 13" 26 in wheel and while it would be ok to ride to school he would not be able to properly handle it in the woods. I was keen on going the 26" wheel route but I am concerned that it can not be done...
Opening Day is coming this May 1, 2011.
CJBMX has spent in excess of 1000 hours building a brand new racetrack at the Jersey Shore. Registration for opening day is from 9:30 to 11:30 with racing at noon.
I really could use some of the same advice. My 8 year old is 54 inches tall and approaching 80lbs. He rides fast, has good control and great bike skills. He currently rides a bmx race bike everywhere. He wants to do more mountain bike riding and would benefit from a larger wheel, higher...
New Riders' at Allaire Report and Thank You
Thank you to the volunteer who hosted the ride as well as those who maintain and build trails.
John Denis and I were concerned about how we would be received when we arrived representing the 20in single speed class (he rides a bmx race bike). The...
CJBMX will have done $10,000 worth of work on the racing surface by the time we open in 2011. We have replaced two corners with bigger banked tuns and have rebuilt every feature on the track. We will be working the surface through March and hands are appreciated. Follow the link for details...
Hitch Racks
If you can run by Campmor. They have been a top national dealer for Thule and Yakima for a few years and the staff is able to help you make your choice.
I would also look at Saris, some of their racks are remarkably light and double as garage stands.
