Mtb Vehicles

I went with a 3/4" piece of MDF board in the back of my Honda Fit that I cut to fill that back area behind the wheel wells just perfect. No movement.

I used two mounts, one a 100mm Quick Release for the Road/Cross bike and another 110mm/15mm/Boost. Slightly offset, one behind the other. I keep the back wheel of whatever bike behind (almost touching) the passenger seat near the door. This allows lots of access to the side of the bike with the hatch open, the driver's side area of the rear seat fully open for crap.

Basically want to get INSIDE the car with the hatch closed to position the handlebars as close to the back glass as possible. Think about if you'll be changing handlebars/stems in the future...

Works awesome. I used some self-tapping screws to temporarily mount the fork mounts. Then I drilled the hole, used T-nuts from the bottom and then 6mm internal-hex screws for the mounts. https://www.mcmaster.com/98965a320 I went metric to keep tooling easy. I keep a 6mm hex tool handy for taking off the Lefty wheel.

I've done this in both our cars. In the Rav4 where we can fit two bikes, all our camping shit etc for long trips, I've got multiple sets of holes marked for the different mounts for the different bikes. QR/100mm-12mm road/110-15mm-bost

I'm still confused how people like pickup trucks as they seem so inconvenient. Not trying to argue, but the bike in my car is secure, doesn't move around and I can fit a LOT of stuff inside and it's secure from the elements. If we wanted to talk about best vehicles ever, we'd just end the conversation with Minivan.

I just skipped right to the end, a minivan is the best vehicle. Three humans and three bikes, easily, four if it’s bmx.
I think I can get four mountain bikes with front wheels off and four humans in my Odyssey. Two large mountain bikes fit without taking any wheels off and still have seating for four

one of those tailgate pads allows 5-6 bikes across the back of a full size pickup, if you have a 4door you can easily sit 6 people, and there is plenty of room under the folded up tri-fold cover for other gear (bags of clothes ect) I like the options that i have with a truck, and none of the mud gets inside the passenger cabin. . . . . i did the throw the bike inside an SUV thing for a while, i could fit two bikes in, but at the cost of seating . . . . its all a compromise and you have to decide what you value more.

for me its the convenience of having the bike fully assembled, dry and out of sight (under the cover) when im alone (security can be a cable lock or a hard cover with a lock), and still have the option to load it up with several bikes and people, all while keeping the cabin clean. I almost always have one bike with me when im driving around.

Every bike that I have has a different fork mount, but since I only ride the fatty, that doesn't really matter. If you have multiple bikes you ride regularly with different fork mounts, then I would suggest having a 2x6 with a mount for each bike that you can just swap out. Also, the inside of your car will get pretty dirty.
As a fellow fatty rider, I'm curious to know which fork mount you've been using. I've got a 15x150 thruaxle Mastodon. Did you buy the fork mount hardware? Make it yourself?

Thanks, Jim. I wasn't aware that there are several products like this that fit a typical fatbike fork. Good price on this one, too. Just got a Ford Transit Connect.
Pics of your setup when complete. My wife is interested in a Transit Connect for her next vehicle because she wants to secure her bike inside instead of a rack.

Not quite done with the setup, but I'll post up info and photos when I've made some final decisions on a few things. There are several ways to go with the Transit Connect based on your goals for the vehicle.😉

Please do, I find these super interesting.

I find my Softopper indespensible for a truck bed! I can fold it up (with zip-on cover) in 2 minutes, +1 minute if I remove it completely. Great weatherproof coverage.

2003 Honda Element 5 speed has been great; 240K. Fits 2 humans, 2 bikes, 1 dog plus a ton of gear. Also works OK for camping if you are not very tall. Gas mileage is approx 25 mpg with AWD.

Also have a creeper van turned camper which also works quite well except the gas mileage; at best - 18mpg.

The stress must be high with Honda Element owners who have a lot of mileage on them due to a lack of available replacement vehicles. There's nothing that really replaces it.

I am pretty sure we'll be seeing them on the road for awhile.

2012 fit, two bikes in side, standing up, front wheels off. I have a 110mm x 15mm Mount and a 9mm Mount so they don’t tip over. Have taken my son to NICA races with the tent and gear and it all fitZ

Picture next time you do it please. While I can easily fit one bike in, I feel a second bike would be rather cramped.

Or at the least, it'd be less easier than how quick I can pull it out now.

You are right; I have been thinking about selling my Element because we currenly have too many cars. However, I am sure I will regret selling it if I go that route.

Also, I must mention the Volvo V70. My buddy in CO has one and we have done many camping trips in that car. 2 dudes, 2 bikes and a ton of gear all fits inside with room to spare. Car is a great road car, looks cool, super safe and OK gas mileage. I had an 850 for years, same deal.
