Going Long and Hard.

Looks like some bailed but he's in a solid fifth and a top 3 finish is in sight
Not even half way though, keep it up Jim, pull out @Mitch nude self as needed

Think Jim's first self-set goal was reached, get through w. yellowstone before the 200km race.
looks like some serious climbing going on now! working with 1 or 2 others??

Great to see progress during the night - Jim's in 5th. Looks like Todd Johnson is right on his wheel - wasn't that guy in that race last year we followed?

Dead. Hardest conditions I've ever raced in. Crashed 15-minutes in a broke my handlebar mount. Rigged the hell out of it but the time it took put me in DFL. I turned myself inside out to catch the front of the race. But if cost me big time and my legs seized up on the big climb after the first checkpoint. Right after that huge climb we made a left into unrideable snow and were forced to push. After about 15 miles of thaty legs completely gave out and I opted for a short cut back to the Lodge. I was on pace to hit the second checkpoint in 10-hours. Would've been a 40-hour race. I'm not happy but still got to ride the best Fat Bike trails on the planet for 22-hours.

Got nothing but respect and admiration for you. Great job, looking forward to rooting you on in your next adventure.

What happened with the crash?

What happened with the crash?
We were riding in a paceline at the start. There were 2 trail options that let out at the same spot. One was groomed, one was snowmobile moguls that were covered over with 2 feet of fresh snow. Me and another guy got our wheels stuck and flipped onto a road. I broke most of the stuff on the front of my bike. Had to dig my tools out of the rear bag to rig everything.

Its a shitty way to end but i hope it doesn't discourage you. Of all the disciplines yoyou've done, this definitely seems like the best fit.
Think of how much better you'll approach the next race.

Did shanequa survive the crash? 🙂

No shit, thats a spectacular effort man. Great work.

First off, we're proud of you.

Hey, it sucks that it happened... But it did.

Take aways;
* A potentially weak point in the setup has been identified... Now improvements can be made and contingency plans put in place.
* You've experienced, first hand, racing at elevation under incredibly taxing conditions, (dark, cold and under extreme duress) short of "life or death" probably the worst possible scenario.
* The effort far exceeded any simulated training ride you could have done in the same timeframe.
* Despite the intense desire to tuff it out, you remained rational enough to make the correct decision to pull the plug before causing severe injury and jeopardize the whole season.

Get some rest.... You've more than earned it.

Thats very ballsy move doing this and riding for almost 22hrs on those conditions. Even a ballsy move when you know how to quit. I admire your courage and this fascinates me about human's strong will to endure harsh environtment to achieve the impossible. Hats off to you and thumbs up! Go Jim go!!!

I hope this is not the last. I will watch your dot as long as you are pedaling, finishing it or not. Or doing selfies along the race. You are one tough fatbiking machine!
