Winter riding shoes

Specialized defrosters, they keep you pretty warm and can also be used when it not freezing out and still be comfy. I start wearing mine in novemeber and thats all i wear till spring. Also wear them when its really wet out in warmer temps and feel fine.

I've had northwave celsius for 5 years and do a decent amount of winter riding. They work pretty well with a good pair of socks. When it dips below 15-20 degrees I sometimes put my pearl izumi amfib covers over them and my feet are very toasty

i've got shimano mv80s or whatever they're called. snow, mud, water, cold, these things take it with ease.

the 45North boots are the only things i'd consider replacing them with.

My Lakes are actually small on me now, and I think the Shimanos will be next on my list.

I need a set of winter shoes, anyone got a recommendation? I'll go see Jay one of these days

Shimanos. Baller status. The Lakes are warm but they feel like combat boots filled with lead. The Shimanos feel like normal MTB shoes.

I have Lake and Shimano mtb boots. I like Lake but use them on road only. My Shimano MT90 boots are made for european market and they are very different animals:

They are better on wet rocks than any my other shoes.

so happy to see this thread, i thought this topic was forbidden...i ordered a pair of lakes two years ago and northwave last year only to have to return them because they did not fit. both times neither website stocked the size that i think would fit me. anyway, does any shop in n jersey stock any of these brands or could someone recommend a good website?

been going with reg shoes + feetwarmers + covers for too long now.

Try Campmor in Paramus. I've seen them carry Lake and Northwave winter boots for a few years now.

I've used the Northwaves for the last couple of years, on road and mountain with no issues! I notice they work better in the cold when I use wool socks. When it's not too cold but wet I use regular bike socks. Fit is key and I would never buy my shoes online without trying them on! Going to a bike shop and trying them on,and then buying them online is not acceptable. Support your local bike shops!!

agree on supporting our local shops, but in my experience no one carries a big stock of these things, and i dont blame them. nothing sucks more than online shoes too. can never get it right.

One option is to order 2 or 3 pairs and return the rest. But you gotta pay for return shipping. I second IceBiker, Campmour has a good stock .. I think Halters does as well.

thanks for the posts - I'm looking to get winter shoes as well.

Unfortunately, Shimano winter shoes don't come small enough for me (since I would have to wear "guys" shoes) - so will look into the Lakes.

the shimanos are the tits guys no joke....unless your in 15 feet of snow like in Alaska the 45nrth are too overkill....the shimanos are sick and very comfortable right outta the box....get a nice pair of wicking socks and your set....

I have lakes and they have done well. After looking at the shimanos there is almost no way they will be as warm as the lakes but a huge plus is that they don't look stupid. Also, you could probably put a bootie on the shimanos for really cold days on the road bike. I'd you mainly ride in temps above 20, the shimanos will probably be fine off road. If you want shoes to take below that, lakes.

Robin, the Pearl Izumi shoes run one to 2 sizes smaller than stated if you come across a pair of those.

You can try on my Specialized Deforsters, I think I have the smallest size available.
