ATV Tracks

Was at Lewis Morris this morning and saw a bunch of ATV tracks on green, red and yellow. crossed trails and on the trails themselves.

I also saw some shotgun shells on red.

The tracks were likely made in the fresh snow and they came down the fire road to get into the park.

I thought the hunting in LM was bow and arrow. Am I wrong?

Or does the hunting permit allow ATVs and shotguns?

The park has a side by side that the maintenance dept uses. Could have been tracks from that.

Dirtbikes do. Quad trails suck.

I'm fairly certain he was joking based on previous posts. You're comment about dirtbikes is true, though. They can actually make some really nice trails if they don't get too carried away with kicking up dirt. Quads, on the other hand, are 99 3/4% ridden by a bunch of lazy fat guys.

I've seen some of the park guys riding ATV's occasionally. Give them nasty looks anyway. No reason anyone needs to ride an ATV in that park. Most locations are within a 15 minute walk of a car ride.

lewis morris (along with a number of other morris county parks) is "open" to hunting on several days during the month. what this roughly translates into is, the local law enforcement and county park police go into the parks and hunt. i'm pretty sure during these hunts they are allowed to use quads (or whatever) to get in and out. it's highly likely that's what you saw. same logic for the shotgun shell. IIRC it's only one day a week until noon and ends either the first week of jan or feb. there should be big yellow signs alerting you to this.

I will ask Mike Cerullo. He is actually on some MCSO ATV special ops team; they have been know to chase drug deals down along RT 24 on quads.
