Monkey Knife Fight 2026. 75 miler or GTFO

Took me a while to get home, shower, eat, stretch, eat more food and stretch more and then doze off on the recliner for a while.

We had a great group and as you can see above met up for the start (sorry Jim we missed you for the group pic). It was chilly and a bit windy at the start but everyone seemed to have picked the right clothing combo to wear to be comfortable.

We rolled together a good part of the day and it really did make the time go quick. The groups split up naturally and most of us hung together through the hardest climbs and it was really motivating. For me personally I spent 4+ months prepping and training for this and while I didn’t make it up on one shot, once I unclipped and reset myself I was able
To climb the steepest parts of goat hill all the way to the top so for me that’s a success.

I agree this event is really well run from top to bottom especially all the volunteers and the gold star level aid stations.

Was good to see most of the crew from last year and some more new faces to put with the names on here.

And yes they had goats at the top of goat hill
Road.

Did the 50 and that was enough time out on the road. Not sure I would do the 75 even if I was in better shape. Just too many hours.
The weather was perfect despite the wind. I think there was even a tailwind here & there.
Definitely glad I un-bailed on this ride. Felt good considering the lack of training and actually made good time with a bunch of PRs.
I wouldn't mind doing the Goat before mounting Mary and that last flat stretch is so long and boring. The headwind was not appreciated.
Zombied out on the couch for almost 3 hours when I got home 🛋️
Didn't take any pictures on the ride.

I knew not to go for the 75 and was happy to do the 50. I wanted to use this to help my fitness, not end my season. I pedaled my fat ass up all the hills and had a great time. One of the best run events I’ve ever been to. Aid stations were awesome and you can’t top the velodrome finish!

Ahh the other Ryan I thought we were missing someone but there was a lot of us at the start. At least we got you in the group
Pic. Lol. Nice to at least meet for a few minutes. The 50 is no joke either.

This doesn’t surprise me about you.
It was good pedaling together!

Thinking back I’m really happy I pulled off riding all of Goat and Bull after hearing all of the hubbub here. I summoned just enough juice to get through the loose section on the top of goat. I’ll be back for this one again next year.

During my recovery ride on the CT today I rode past these folks and told them about MKF and the special prize for synchronized pedaling on a Chinese battery powered fake Brompton and they said they are in!

Post MKF happenings:

I had to go to the ER Tuesday as my leg was really bothering me and swollen. My right calf cramped during the event and I pushed through to the finish. The cramping was expected as those hills/nutrition/hydration finally caught up. In the days following my calf was sore but then the pan started wrapping around to the front of my shin. F*ck. Had something like this, and suspected a blood clot.

10 hours of fun after blood tests and a Doppler ultrasound resulted in a blood clot in my leg and a blood test showed a low level indicator for Rhabdomyolosis. I laughed when the doc said rhabdo as I knew what I did over the weekend. I guess those hills were pretty hard since I wasn’t recovered and my muscles were struggling to recover.

The leg feels better today and I’m getting rehydrated and I’ll be taking and easy ride today to let the blood pumping and reduce the swelling. Pay attention to your body! I didn’t want this to turn into a PE like I had happen in 2010.
