The Pumpkin Ale thread

Anyone else a big fan of pumpkin ales? If you know any good ones, post them here. My two favorites are:

Dogfish Head Punkin
Southern Tier Pumpking

Just tried the River Horse Hipp-o-lantern and it is delicious as well. Great pumpkin pie flavors.

Tis the season..

Tried the Dog Fish Punkin the other night....loved it. Part of my MBA at the Clovereaf in Caldwell.

I love the punkin ale as well. I just hate 4 packs that cost as much as 6 packs. This whole 4 pack trend is a downer.

I tried some Wolaver's Will Stevens' Pumpkin Ale as my first pumkin ale... and while I found it incredibly delicious, I could not see myself drinking these in the manner that I consume most of the delicious beers I indulge in. Fall is my favorite season by far, but drinking something like this, to me, seems like overkill... like eating a Bomb Pop on the 4th of July while wearing stars and stripes shorts/shirt combo while fireworks are going off to the tune of "the star spangled banner"
..... off to the liquor store! 😀

I already posted something but I thought Shipyard's Smashed Pumpkin was awesome

+1 on this. My wife brought some home last week and it is delicious.

I could not see myself drinking these in the manner that I consume most of the delicious beers I indulge in.

+1 on this also. Pumpkin ale is good, but I don't think I could drink vast quantities of it, or drink it for more than a month or so.

Triumph Brewery

For those in The Princeton area, Triumph used to have a pumpkin brew this time of year. I used to enjoy all of their beers but I must admit....it's been quite a few years.
Has anyone been out there this season to sample a few and notice pumpkin on the menu?😉

Drinking in moderation?

Brilliant! I have to agree, pumpkin ales are to be consumed conservatively. Two at a sitting is about the most I can handle.

Dave - I saw your thread and another about the River Horse and thought I'd put them all together into one. I'm going to have to give Shipyard a try.

Pumpkin ale...something I have to find courage to try. Somehow idea of pumpkin and beer does not sit well with me....

Rogue

I think the company is called Rogue, but they have a really good ale called Dead Guy. Simply delicious.

Word?

I almost picked up the Sarnac because it was only 7 bucks. I will have to go to Canals today after work and grab that

I got the Saranac and had most of one the other night. I would suggest that if you're gonna drink one beer to decide if you like Pumpkin Ales, don't let it be this one. Sure it's a beer but the pumpkin spice flavor is kind of perfumey and tastes like it was added after the fact and not brewed in and tastes like it kind of floats around on top of the beer. It also has an unpleasant and bitter after bite. If I were going to drink a six pack in one sitting maybe I wouldn't care, but I drink only once in a while and rarely down two, so taste matters.

For one that's smooth, perfectly balanced and non-bitter go for Shipyard Pumpkinhead(What is this smashed pumpkin I hear about?) That's one you can really enjoy. It has an almost creamy after taste that is reminiscent of Grandma's Pumpkin pie.

Another one, South Hampton Publick House Pumpkin is next on my to buy list. I had never heard of it but bought their Double White and was so impressed by the flavor and balance that trying their pumpkin is a must, Maybe even this weekend. I'll let you know how that goes.

I did not like the Southern Tier Pumking at all.

My personal fave is Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin ale.

I do want to try the Shipyard if I can find it.

Tried the Post Road Pumpkin Ale (made by Brooklyn Brewery) last night. Ok, but not one of my favorites. I found it was a bit too carbonated and although the flavor was good it left a bit of a stinging aftertaste on the back of my tongue. I like a more smooth finish with this kind of beer.

Shipyard and South Hampton are next on the list.

I tryed my first pumpkin ale yesterday. Blue Moon. It was tasty, but definitely something I'd wanna drink with a good meal, not just lounging around.
