Hey folks. Spend Memorial Day Saturday morning at the Sourlands. Once again we will be working to repair some of the trail problems created from this summers excessive rainfall. Meet at the usual East Mountain Road parking lot.

We plan to work until around noon. A post TM ride is a definite possibility if there is any interest.🙂

Moving broadwalk to high section

That's better.

You can see where the reoccuring problem was. The boardwalk just wouldn't let any water flow past it. So it was sectioned and a small portion was moved up for new reroute two other sections still around saved for future use.

Packed house today

Decided to take up a small armoring project myself with the help of the other two older but young at heart hiker volunteers that always show up. I am brain farting on their names, sorry. They are awesome ppl.

They decided to take up an armoring project too

Great pics Manny!

Thanks to Manny, Chris Dietrich, Bob Birmingham, Rangers Chris & Ryan, and our hiker friends Frank & Sharon for helping out. As you can see from Manny's pics, one of the boardwalks was acting as a dam, causing water to collect on the trail. We cut the boardwalk down to about 1/3 of its original length and moved it about 20' uphill, making sure that there is room for water to flow under the bridge. A small trail re-route and a bit of trail armor, and that section of trail should drain well now.

GREAT PICS, GREAT TM !!!!!
This was a case where a supposed fix (ie the boardwalk) inadvertently created a bigger drainage problem... but a thoughtful (and very simple) reroute resulted in a dramatic improvement.

This is the kind of TM we like... Minor effort; major impact! Good stuff, Jeff.
