The next TM day at the Sourlands Preserve will be held on Sunday 4/26 @ 9am. We plan to focus on a couple of trail sections that hold water by rerouting small sections of trail and selective armouring. We plan to work for about 3 hours with a post-TM ride to follow. Bring work gloves and water. Hope to see you there.🙂

If I am not mistaken there is also TM @ Waway & Ringwood & I think at Root 66 race

I think now there is much more stuff going on so it will be difficult not to overlap TM's

True, but the other TM is like 4 miles away so your pool of participants is certainly going to be more shallow.

Lots of stuff going on, for sure.

Isn't this the same day as Six Mile TM?

Probably. Unfortunately, we are somewhat limited when we can schedule TM's based upon Somerset County Rangers availability. Both Sourlands and CR are locked into the TM dates months in advance. As El Z stated, there are just too many parks actively holding TM's to avoid all conflicts. Hopefully there are enough volunteers to go around.

This months TM day will be MUCH less ambitious then last month when we built the new trail, so we can tailor the work scope to the size of the group.

Well the Jason's have a much longer leash, so maybe the Six Mile TM should start at 1:00 😀

oh no, conflicts! Considering the 6 mile one involves getting stuff in knee deep mud, this one may be more appealing 😀. Also, 100 people will probably show up for the 6 mile one...in any case, hopefully I can make one of them but my schedule is going to be very unpredictable for the next 10 weeks...

I will be at both with my alter ego, Hsuk.

Bump for this Sunday.

thanks for the bump jeff I missed this thread,
I will be racing highbridge on saturday and possibily riding the tour de franklin sunday...
so I hope I can make this one ill try and keep you posted

How do these work. Meet in the lot at 9. But what do you do with you bikes from then until the ride?

Good question. The Sourlands only has one parking lot, so it really depends where we will be working. If the work area is close to the parking lot, most people just hike in and leave the bikes in the car. If the work spot is towards the top of the ridge, people often ride their bikes up to the work spot and just leave them on the side of the trail. The disadvantage of doing this is that you have to choose clothing/shoes that are either ideal for doing trail work or ideal for biking. If you choose smartly, then you can satisfy both of those.

So, I still need final confirmation from the county, but it looks like we will be working pretty far up the ridge this Sunday. Riding your bike up the hill will probably be the fastest way to get there.

We will transport the tools up the hill in a Somerset County truck, so you would only need to bring a pair of work gloves, and maybe some food and water for the day. The county also has room for about 4-5 volunteers in the truck as well.

Unfortunately, I am on "Injured Reserve" right now, so hopefully there will be another volunteer who can lead a post-TM ride if there is any interest. I will be at the TM though.🙂

I am still torn on this and the 6 mile TM. This will be a more intimate affair where 6 mile will likely be like a party, but a party in the mud and in full on sun. I do owe sourlands some TM since I bailed after the pre-ride last time. :hmmm:

It looks like there will be an abundance of capable people at the 6 mile party. So I'm going to come here as I crave personal attention  . I may be a bit late, if so, Jeff, can you PM me your cell por favor.

Yes, we pride ourselves on providing that intimate atmosphere and personal touch at our TM sessions. Escape from the masses and join us. 😀

Look for the PM Kush.

The oppressive heat couldn't keep the crew away today. We tackled a perennially wet & muddy section of trail today by slightly re-routing the trail and armoring it rocks. Despite the fact that the Sourlands is blessed with an abundance of rocks, it takes time and skill to find just the right rock to complete the jigsaw puzzle. Thanks to Efingers Sporting Goods for supplying the energy bars and liquid refreshments, and supplying the team with tubes. And a big thanks to everyone who came out to help:

Kush and stb222 appeared to hit it off nicely at first...

But then Kev made fun of Kush's big stupid wheels and things got ugly. 😀
