Probably signing up today. Just wondering.....who's in? I'll be 40-49 beginner class, not really looking to do anything other than not finish last.

isnt the pre-ride tomorrow @ 6?

Could be, this was just a couple of us riding it, but 2 of my nephews are in a playoff baseball game that was rescheduled due to the storm last night, so I am going to watch that instead. Hopefully I can make the ride tomorrow.

on the MASS Facebook page:

"Tim Collins:

Quick update on the D and Q Summer Sizzler: The pre-ride is off for tomorrow as rain is expected, it will take place on Thursday at 6pm. For Sunday, the forecast looks pretty reasonable and I am fairly confident that we will be racing. The race is on unless there is further notification."

SS gearing thoughts? I've raced there several times on a geared bike, but it's been years. I don't remember any climbs at all.

Depending on how strong your legs are you may want to consider something smaller in the rear because I hear its fairly flat. I run a 19T in the back but may drop it down to 18T if I can get the cog by Sunday

SS gearing

I ride it on a 34-18 26er SS and can climb all of the hills.
The roots beat you up on a rigid.

I'm seriously considering this one, but it will be a just before pre-reg closes decision. Does anyone know the alternate date if mother nature decides to throw a wrench in the works?

Is everyone still on for tonight at 6? I know we got some rain last night and wasnt sure what the conditions were lke

I know these trails pretty well and am still hemming and hawing over my setup for this race.

I used to ride there all the time and I always ran a 32x18 just because that was my standard gear and I never messed with it. Racing that course for me at least, 32x18 wasnt enough. I was always looking for more gear on the flats... The punchy ups are not long enough to worry about a "climbing" gear. SO... I'll probably run 34x18 or 35x18 or maaaaybe 32x16 on Sunday. For reference, I ran 35x17 at the DH40 (only one lap -- as part of a relay) and I thought that was a good gear there. If it werent for the super twisty sections at Sewell, I'd probably run that again.

As for rigid or squish, I'm debating that as well. 4 laps of that chattery chit with logovers beating me up has me thinking Fox.... but I hate how the suspension fork corners and I hate how it feels going over logs... so maybe rigid?

Right now my bike is set up from the darkhorse as rigid with 35x17 and a isht ton of mud on it... so we'll see how ambitious I am about swapping parts.

Oh, and I'm considering the geared bike as well.

Cliffs Notes: I have no effing clue what I'll run this weekend. 🙄

Also, from what I hear they are extending pre registration till noon tomorrow if they've not done so already.

I was planning on going, not really a racer (1st race in 15+ years) but wanna see how the course is set as opposed to the reg loop I do there.
I figured I'd do 40+ beginner class just for the shits and giggles.

Not sure when you rode GCC last but it's really rooty, 4 laps rigid....God bless you man.

I think I'm going to do this one... 40+ beginner category so @MikeP I'll be in your field. I'm not an XC racer but I want to do it just to do it and use it as a workout.
