i suspect dorothy's limo had to slow down for a bike the other day...or perhaps she had to walk around one of the racks.

That old hag disagrees with the mayors ideologies and claims he needs to walk along 5th avenue to witness the traffic.
While it is true that biking in a city can be dangerous on a bike, doing anything in the city is more dangerous...but we do it.

There are super aggressive a-holes behind the wheel in NY, does it surprise you to find this same mentality on a bike?

Maybe cars are the problem, ban them. Bike, walk, run, paddle into manhattan.

this is absurd, the city is going to get sued because they don't provide or require helmets...first time someone gets brain damage the lawyers are going to be lining up. I am all for reducing cars, but really, the execution of this is piss poor.

I'm not a lawyer... so not sure about liabilities and such...

but... kids/people older than 14 years old don't need to wear a helmet.

What an idiot. She brings up a valid point though- bikes could prevent firetrucks from getting into the subway.

I've had more close calls as a pedestrian in the city than as a cyclist.

They should make the stairs wider so the trucks can get down there.
in troll mode again today - didn't ride yet.

NYC is just f-ed up. A female co-worker got assaulted by a cab 2 weeks ago. He rammed her from behind at 6:30am - not in rush hour or on a busy street. He admitted to the cops that "I hit her because she should not be riding in the street." I see insane crap like this every day in NYC. I keep asking myself why I ride here.

Fyi nyc gives out free helmets. I got one about two years ago and they even make sure it is the correct size and fit it properly.

Ugly as heck though.

I had a cab try to take me out before....it was on a side street, back up bumper to bumper, but he just wanted to close the gap in between cars even more...

then again... even when you're driving in NYC in a car... cab drivers are still out there trying to kill you.

Some can be very shady with their prices also.... thinking their passengers are too drunk to notice.
