dead Powertap SL+

The first time my Powertap died, it happened after 50 minutes riding outside. I replaced the batteries the next day and everything seemed fine. During the following week, I would ride 1 hr on the trainer each day and it worked. The next weekend, it died again ~50 min into the ride however now it wont work even after replacing the batteries. I used 357 silver oxide batteries which I hear are the best. What should I check or do to troubleshoot before I resort to sending it back to the Saris mothership?

Check the connection between the battery holder and hub to make sure it's tight. Sometimes after a few times changing the batteries that little plug gets worn down and doesn't make contact with the holder. We have new battery holders in the shop if you're close enough to test that.
