I saw a few orange and blue kits out there and it was an amazing day weather wise. I didn't see any race reports yet so either it was that bad or everyone's still sleeping. How'd the race go for you?

why are you even awake? shouldn't you be in a hyperbaric chamber?

writing now 😉

but I just wanted to say the Blackbear people put on an amazing race, once again.

Totally awesome and entertaining course as always! Even the mass start was entertaining. Beforehand I was wondering how that would work, and overall, if you were ok to chill for the first 20 minutes, it wasn't too bad. You still had another 30 miles to get your riding in.

My only disappointment was that I won this cool bottle opener for finishing and when I got home, I had no beer and was too tired to go out and get some.

Good race for me. Zero mechanicals, maybe a little to conservative but stuck to game plan and enjoyed the whole thing. Stopped once to help a guy who went over the bars and ripped open his chin and twice to give out 2 tubes to fellow races in need.. Knocked off 48 min from last years time so accomplished my goal. Thanks to BBC for another great event.

Great course, Weather made it more enjoyable. Good to see a lot less DNF's this year. I ♥ wayway.
Thank you Black Bear Cycling.

Best course for this race, even better than 2011. Really great that they didn't send us through the swampy gas line crossing this time. Perfect conditions, food and music afterwards was fantastic. Thanks so much BlackBearCycling!

Happy to finish my 4th Bearscat, feeling pretty tired, yet pretty good. Good times as always & with perfect weather and conditions. Such an amazingly awesome rocky course & great job by Black Bear, as usual. Time of 5:46 in 6th place, after swapping spots back & forth w/ super fast elite ladies. Feeling happy after riding w/ some fantastic people. And actually taking off from work, so we could just rest later w/ good beer was a great way to end the day.

I'm trying to sleep but work keeps getting in the way...

I agree this was an amazing event put on by a great group. It was a surprisingly fast course even with all the rocks out there. Much more enjoyable than the first BS50 I did 3 years ago.

I was happy to finished with my legs still attached at 4:28. I was just looking forward to the BBQ afterwards.

by far my favorite race!!! this years course was awesome, dry and fast(for waway that is), didn't miss the swamp one bit. i also liked the mass start, from where i was people were pretty honest.

thank you black bear for all of your hard work!!!

We are glad you all enjoyed the race. We are always trying to make things better and hope to always present a great race and event.

This is a love / hate race. I would mark it as a challenge for anyone. On a hotter or wetter day it could kill someone. (I lost 8 lbs of water weight)

Thanks for putting this on and running it so smoothly.

Very happy to see so many people I know killing it out there.

I was in no mans land for a lot of the race and was slower than the fast guys and faster than the slow. I was loosing my shit for a bit.

Rode my longer travel bike and I was glad. The highlights for me were the downhills for sure.

If you can wrangle it next year, I am willing to fill a backpack with tubes and do neutral support on my ktm.

Are the results listed somewhere??

Being taken out due to a mechanical on lap two after the gas line decent really stinks. Not being able to ride the best coarse I ever raced on was probably the worst part. Having EVERY rider that rode by me as i walked out ask if i was ok and some even stopping to offer help shows what a great community of mtn bikers we have. Thanks to all of you and especially thank you Black Bear for putting on such a fantastic event.

It was great to ride back and forth with Jae most of the day. I can confirm he was enjoying the downhills and he was giving me some great pointers in the rocks. Towards the end we were both cramping and I was finding it tough to keep my shit together in the technical stuff!

Absolutely love this race!! I don't race too much these days but this is one of them I don't plan on missing.

This is the first race I've done in a couple years on a skinny wheeled bike, so I had a few issues making the transition back. Ended up in the woods not too far out of the start getting re-acclimated to the lack of traction. After a lap I thought I was good to go and ended up flipping into the woods again on one of those rock bridges. Cut my leg to the bone but stayed in it to finish.

Ended up just making it under 5 hours, which I'm happy about. Without crashing I may have dropped another 20 minutes maybe? Who knows. Awesome time either way!!

Super fun hanging out with everyone, see ya'll next time around.

Damn Jim, I noticed that cut in Pearl's pic. Need stitches for that one?

Probably. I just taped it closed at home though. It must've bled like hell during the race because my shoe is covered in dried blood.

On paper I had no business entering this race. Since we had a baby in September leading up to the race I had done a total of maybe 10 short rides scattered all over the calendar. We did a group ride on Memorial Day weekend and I was feeling good. Craig jokingly suggested I should take his spot and do the race. I thought about it some and figured what's the worst thing that could happen? Cramp up very badly like last year? By the time I decided to enter I had missed the registration deadline but Jeff nicely extended the deadline by a couple of days and I was able to get in. So I figure I should get my bike looked over since it was due for a fork rebuild and I didn't want to ruin this one like the last due to negligence. Mike at wyckoff looked over the bike found the source of my noisy frame, a nice 180 degree crack around my down tube.... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401889657.709291.jpg
Right around then I contracted a nasty respitory infection. At this point I figured I was done, but I had already paid. Mike shoved an extra piece of seat tube in the frame to help in case the whole thing fell apart and my infection mostly cleared up in time with some antibiotics.
I finished somewhere in the 7 hour time frame ( haven't seen the results) but enjoyed myself much more than last year. I was very deliberate with limiting my max exertion to limit cramping and was able to ride almost all of the features both laps.
The frame held up (the crack is definitely bigger now). I'm glad I did it since it gave me a nice confidence boost to get back into the thick of things.
I bought the bike used so giant won't warranty it outright but they are giving me a 2014 anthem 29er frame for $700 which isn't too bad...

damn, you people are badass....riding losing a pint of blood into your shoe and then this dude with the "oh, gee I have a cracked frame, lets just rig it and ride a 44 mile race on it"...simply the definition of badass.

I woulda at least wrapped it in duct tape (leg and frame)....but I am not badass....
