Trail Maintenance Best Practices (Do This)

The pillow type snow this last storm had, sat on top of all of the vine type plants and pulled the small trees down. Also, great time to hit the base of the pricky type plants

James Pearl Thinks Blogging is Dead

Man, IDK, maybe the creek local's aren't the best gauge. The majority of the kids I see in normal suburbia are 100% softer than we were :D

    Heat pumps. Who's using them?

My house is 2,300sq ft, one hot water heater. Budget plan for last year was $300/month average. I got a new outside until in 2024. Inside unit is 20 years old. Last few weeks was rough, when it gets below 15 I use the emergency heat otherwise the heatpump just runs a ton. The bill for...

James Pearl Thinks Blogging is Dead

Yes, I agree. I am '77 and feeling like Gen X is my brother ('71), who I don't really relate to at all. At some point there was Gen Y, which was I think what they call Xennials now, why do we have to work 9-5, why do we have to come to the office...and I can relate to that as well.

What worked for you in 2025?

I got new road shoes in 2025 and had a cleat fit at Halters and tweaked my saddle height as well, which I hadn't touched in at least 5 years. For mtb, I think a fit isn't really needed because you move around so much but on the road bike it is a game changer and re-visit cleat and seat position...

    Mercer County Park Conditions

Rode this morning: Came in from Hughes and someone with a fat bike and skinny tires rutted up some of the stuff closest to hughes, still ridable, but not as good as it was. Luckily they didn't make it very far before turning around. Paxson twist has some good, some ok and some bumpy from deer...

    Chain Wax Discussion thread

So I found a limitation with waxing: sub freezing rewaxing its been cold and I had two broken links in the past week. It would appear the pin was seized in the roller which makes me think wax isnt getting in there. With the drip refresh, being water-based, I am guessing it isn't getting far...

    Mercer County Park Conditions

@Big Al is the man is the week, pretty unique Grooming with short stride snowshoe and mcleod tamp made for a dish like path. Where no people on foot or animals went, its smooth but Christmas tree trail and a few other spots is like riding on a trail of a mix of softballs and baseballs.

    The 2026 January BIYF

1/7 1:31 Windswept Temp drop 8 degrees during my ride and winds north pf 30 mph made for some cool videos with the 1” of snow we got. Mercer is great right now with a unique ride in. 1/8 1:06 5 degrees and dewpoint of -10 Dish

    The 2026 January BIYF

2/6 1:33 PP's Left Overs Some of core is "rideable" but very meh. The ok spots where are a snowshoe make a broad imprint that crushed the top layer and then refroze and people walked on it. It created a packed down path but man is it bumpy. I found an interesting road find that I posted in...
