Dry January 2026 (The Sober Thread)

This is my biggest motivation, too. Having a kid does keep me from doing stupid things like blacking out or sitting around day drinking. But I still end up drinking more than I like. The biggest difficulty for me is that since I just moved to NJ in summer 2022 I am still making friends and...

Dry January 2026 (The Sober Thread)

I have to respectfully disagree with this. But maybe it is just my experience. Despite having sober periods that lasted over a year in the past, this is still a battle fought everyday. It was mostly a losing battle over the holidays for me. So if you are at the point where you don't think you...

    Hello From Green Township

I assumed as much. When I make it out to an electric Sunday ride maybe someone can drop some hints on how I can find my way to the basement of Lou's Tavern.

    Hello From Green Township

Where do you ride moto? Assuming outside of NJ. I used to ride moto (aka "dirt bikes") where I grew up in the Midwest, but can't find anywhere nearby to ride here.

Out. Woke up still not feeling well. Don’t want to make everyone sick. Have fun today, folks!

    Group Ride Hartshorne 12/8 Sunday

If I can get over this head cold by Sunday I will be there. Possibly on an eMTB due to my weakened condition.

    ⚡️Electric Sundays⚡️

I got a pretty late start so I just hit Stephens, but still had a blast. I'll make it on time one of these Sundays.

    ⚡️Electric Sundays⚡️

Sounds good. I’ll start at Stephens. Trying to get there by 10:30.

    ⚡️Electric Sundays⚡️

I’ll be around Stephens/Mooch/Deer on my Shuttle tomorrow. Can’t make it to the start time. Maybe I’ll bump into you all.

Dry January 2026 (The Sober Thread)

Ah, my other addiction. The omnipresent holiday Reese's. I never buy them yet they keep showing up in my house. Then every winter I am suddenly 10 pounds heavier. Saw my doctor last week and she was kind enough to note that I was 4 pounds heavier than my last visit. I said, "Thanks for...

Dry January 2026 (The Sober Thread)

Thanks, I'll check that app out. Yeah, I have tried some of the Athletic flavors. They aren't bad, but not great. For replacing the habit of grabbing a cold beer having a fridge full of La Croix or similar goes a long way for me.

Dry January 2026 (The Sober Thread)

I had a good stretch going but now I keep falling off of the wagon (see my recent antics on the eMTB thread <facepalm>). What app is this? Having a visual tracker and making it a game might help. Also congrats to everyone for so many 6+ year anniversaries!

    Deer Park Trail Directory

Yeah, my screenshot was from the browser app. But I see it included in both desktop and mobile apps now. See Patrick's comment directly above.

Appreciate the update! I didn't realize it was unsanctioned. Good to know!

    Deer Park Trail Directory

I noticed the Rogue trail has disappeared from the Trailforks map. Just rode it on Saturday and it was on the map then. Did something happen between now and then?

It's 2026 Is an Emtb in your near future?

A fair point. The Amish I am talking about are Amish. This is in rural Ohio; I don't know anything about the Amish/Mennonite communities in PA/VT/etc.

It's 2026 Is an Emtb in your near future?

Respectfully, I think we are arguing over semantics here. We can all look Ian's comment and easily interpret this to mean "I ride for fun, not fitness." I can relate. It's great that fitness is a byproduct of riding, but I came in through freestyle BMX (no racing). If it was not fun I wouldn't...

It's 2026 Is an Emtb in your near future?

Ha! You would think. I would love to see that. I don’t know the justification, but I did grow up in Amish country and can tell you they are blasting along the roads on ebikes alongside 55 mph traffic. No helmets. Just homemade jeans and dresses.

It's 2026 Is an Emtb in your near future?

I figured as much. And I mean that respectfully not sarcastically. This tells me we are probably on different fitness levels. If you are working towards higher levels of fitness of course a regular bike is going to help you more. But an eMTB helps me get out on rides that would not have happened...
