Tried out the 29x3 setup today. Worked well, felt good, and was fun. Dropped ~3lbs from the 26x4.8 winter setup.

What wheels did you end up with? Considering this myself but i think the OD would be a fair amount smaller from the massive 4.5" cakeeaters.

Corvus PassHunter 29+. I didn't measure, but I think they have a larger diameter than my 26x4.8 Minions on Mulefat 80s.

Definetely looks that way. hopefully you get less pedal strikes now. My 27.5x4.5 CE's appear even larger than the 29's as they damn near touch the seat tube. Unfortunately I'd probably lose some bb height...
