Chimney Rock Conditions

You should be good. I don't think we got much today. If anything just Misty. There's going to be some muddy spots. Stay away from blue, maybe red and white too
Was thinking going from baseball field to black over to Cromwell. Then hitting Hawk watch to yellow back down to Gilbride, over to orange, then red. Skipping green, blue and white.

It’s been raining off/on in Bridgewater tonight -including now.. not a lot, but just enough to be annoying. Early morning rides could be slick before the sun comes out to play.

Ok decided to check it out myself. Wound up riding most trails except Cromwell and the connector between it and Gilbride.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Lots of hero dirt and only a few wet spots that you can slow pedal through or skirt the edge of.

First, there is a small tree down in yellow. It’s right below bottom bracket height so not urgent.

I should just bring my saw on every ride. Every single time I don’t, there is low hanging fruit like this I could have addressed myself. 🤨

Overall, yellow was looking good. Some shiny spots but no mud on the route I took. Lots of hero dirt though! 👍👍

Orange had wet spots where you expect them like on the climb up from Gilbride.

This is the little cord du roy patch at the top. See? Not too bad all things considered.

Next, onwards to red. Similar to orange it was yucky in just the usual places.

Here’s that spot that is always wet on the perimeter trail near the culvert bridge.

And of course, the switch backs near the Newmans lot were wet.

Blue was surprisingly mud free. Granted, I just did a clock wise route taking the first connector by the big log over and avoided the back and lower parts.

Someone has been steadily improving these berms. Good job! 👍

White was also decent but I skipped that section where you pedal under the fallen tree.

Hero dirt here. ✌️

So get out there while you can!

Never seen #1? That one is near where George Washington chopped down the chimney rock, hence why the park is also called Washington Valley, duh!🙄

#2 is correct!

#3 is incorrect, sir.

i'm thinking the rocky slab coming down main vein from the 4-way towards gilbride (well parallel gilbride at that point) ?
It used to be part of the yellow system - not sure now/.
You are incorrect, sir!

That is a good guess though. What you thought of is THIS slabby cascade on yellow. As you can see, it is quite different.

Rode a chunk of Cromwell (starting by the Ball Fields). Cromwell proper (at least what I saw of it) is in great shape. The area on black where the pavers were put down in the fall are still holding moisture. However, the area in the image below is an f’n shit show. (It’s the upper trail, the ones closer to the water are fine)

Yes, it’s always soft there, but…. Holy Mud-Pie Batman!

Went back today to tackle the fallen tree on yellow that I reported on Monday.

But this time, I brought a Japanese friend. 🙂

As usual, cutting was easy, moving the heavy log over was the real challenge for me. Took some huffing and puffing but I got it up and out of the way.

Trails are in good, rideable condition. In addition to yellow, also did a tour thru Cromwell.

I found this odd looking e-bike parked here. Whoever owns it must have some strange ideas about mountain biking. 🤭

On the way back to Gilbride, I reconnoitered that rock roll near the stream. I still haven’t worked up the courage to try it. Oh well, one day… but not today. 😰🐓
