Stephens State Park Conditions

The Station Rd entrance is blocked by a mound of snow (and a car was parked up against it) today.

I ended up going up Orange from the main park entrance to tune up a few things on my radar, but ended up passing a blowdown diagonal to the trail as well and took care of that. So the whole Orange loop should be clear to hammer down in either direction.

So we need a trail crew with snow shovels? lol

My glorious return to Chainsaw missions today!! The knee not perfect but 4 months after surgery, post-activity swelling is much reduced. All the inactivity during the holiday season was not kind to my overall cardio and body weight. I felt every excess pound today. But it did feel great to get back into the woods on a sunny, brisk day and resume the crossfit workout that these Chainsaw TMs can become.

I started at the Station road lot and got all targets in close proximity. Most of my efforts went to the Sunset trail, which had about 10 issues (tracked ones, bonus ones, and tune ups). Then I moved over to the Natalie Drive and got one more on White, near the XY trail. I know Dennis/Bill & Jason were out on a big loop today, doing a large handful of other manual clearings.

The remainder of Stephens issues are at the North side of the park, and one on Pots&Pans. About 7 or 8 known issues, but I'm sure plenty more untracked.

Generic reminder to all: Please kick aside the smaller sticks and blockages if you can. And as always, please keep doing a great job of reporting Blowdowns, to include a Photo and a trailmap pin. Much appreciated and the fast track to getting it cleared.

I did another chainsaw TM today, mostly from the Trestle. I swept the entire Trestle trail, clearing that hairy overhead one. I did several on the "winter trail rail bed alternative", the green trail that parallels the tracks. Also cleared the reported one on "Tilcon Lake to trestle railbed", which had become an established logover (the green ramp from the road). Got the one on TeePee Rock trail. Then repositioned to Vistar to get the reported one under the mulch. I hacked out two over-trail leaners too, one near bridge at the Base of teepee rock. And one not far from the deck bridges on the trestle trail.

Going straight to beast mode, great to have you back in the fold, Thank You!!

Did a Mooch/Stephens route today and trails were pretty good on the Stephens side. We cut/moved one off the trail on Estus Loop (in case anyone was tracking). The rest was good. I'll report the other ones on the Mooch thread.

Hi All,

Going forward we are asking all trail reports to be directed to TrailForks. Their app makes reporting blow downs and trail issues super simple and will aid our sawyers going forward creating a single point to see where they are located. Inside the app, you can click the yellow "+" which will pop open this screen to create a new a report where you can add photos and information for the crew.

This gives us a much easier to see map of the issues around the park rather than transcoding posts from here onto a map. If you have any questions on how to create a report feel free to reach out.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have to be recording the ride real-time to do this? I have never used TF to record but I think this is a great idea to trend towards this model.

Nope! You can add it after the fact by going onto the trail and long holding the location then clicking the yellow button to "Write Report". That'll pop open the screen I posted before and you can add your pictures/notes.
