Stephens Trail Build- Iron Gate Trail

Yessir! Hundreds of years of experience of trail building between that small group. Pretty insane how much we got done. Should ride pretty well already... Had easily 20+ riders test it out over the course of the TM

I think I left first blood on that trail last weekend.

Was heading from the lot towards the trails and went off the little rock "drop" on the right about 3/4 of the way up...landed in the soft dirt and things went south quick. Face took most of it, did manage to crack my helmet 🙁.

The trail was already riding great, but there was one area that I think is a bit too tough towards the end. There's a dip down, over a rock, and then back up. It's really hard to keep any speed with the off camber and really tough to get back onto the spine. If that's on the NICA race course, it's gonna be a bottleneck for sure.

Yep, it was borderline unrideable. @christryon and crew widened the turn, fixed the off camber after the rock and lessened the pitch on the punch back up the spine.

There's still some improvement left there (I'd love to culvert the bottom so we can build a proper berm to keep speed) but we saw 10+ riders clear it without much issue. There's a chance we open up a cut through for the NICA race that stays along the spine as well to go around it all together.

My eyes pop out of my head when I see features like that. I love when trails aren’t completely erased.

Put is a few good hrs this am on the new iron gate connector trail.

Started at a chilly 🥶 26 degrees but finished under the warm sun.

Got a mouthful from an angry mtber who I’ve crossed paths with before on a prior day building another trail.

Got an interesting lesson on how Jorba is ruining the park and how we are building illegally. Also found out that it’s JORBA’s fault that motorcycles aren’t allowed in the park. I also didn’t know that Jorba was run by radical liberals.

It was demanded of me to produce a permit, (of which we have permission btw) I passed on the opportunity to continue this enlightening exchange. We parted ways and I gave his description to the superintendent who was quite interested to meet with this fella.

Look out for an angry rider in a dated blk trek wearing thick glasses and an old Gold TLD helmet.

I also learned that his blk lab has a special hunting license 🪪 and can run off leash.

Such an entertaining and interesting encounter with an angry elf.

Pretty sure he was driving a silver Nissan utility van with a Thule t2 rack on the back.

Such an angry and hostile dude.. I hope he enjoyed the new trail we are building.

I've been present for two of his rants. The first aimed directly at a trail crew brushing back the mazes. The second directly at 3 of us on a chainsaw mission on long way round..some video existed of that encounter. This about 3 years ago. He's a very angry and imposing guy. And he was yammering on about those same points. Struck me as delusional and unhinged... We do know his name.

I decided it was best to encourage him down the trail and defuse the conflict. He’s mad as hell about something that happened very long ago. He was screaming something about Steve.. anyway I’m sure he will ride this trail and curse about it every time.

The park has been made aware of his nonsense and would very much like to meet with him.

Please DM me. I'll relay his name to the state parks.

And don't hesitate to call the police if he verbally assaults you again, zero tolerance for that.
