Rainy day catch up: The last few weeks have been warm and filled with friends visiting and lots of riding. I rode 7 of the last 8 days. The rain was almost perfect timing as my legs were getting tired. This rest day is needed. Tomorrow we will resume with another 4-5 days of riding with visiting friends. It should be really fun.

The progress on the trail work happening out here by the professional crews has been productive. Every few weeks another new section is completed and it is really good work with rock wall building and meandering new sections. Most the new sections visit new spaces and offer varied views of this beautiful area behind my house. All this in addition to eliminated eroded hike a bikes. I am feeling positive about the future of these trails being adopted by the forest service. So far it is a dream come true start.

More pics from the last 2 days. Yesterday we did an 18 mile loop at Starr trails in TMP. We rode most my favorite trails. I am now at riding 10 of 12 days. Even though my legs are not feeling terrible, I decided to take today off the bike to rest. I should have been more tired yesterday, but the rocks kept me focussed and energized. It is so nice to ride with friends that like riding rocks. The last few days have been so much fun! The girls are currently out riding Honeybee with Art.

There are a bunch of flowers starting to bloom and with more rain last night, it is only going to get better over the next few weeks. If you were thinking of coming to Tucson, the next month is prime time. I will try to get more pictures soon.

Great pictures as always! For those i9ntersted in visiting Tucson, do you have any suggestions of local pet friendly hotel or B&B ?

I just dropped Marianne off at the shuttle after having a nice few weeks of a visit. It has been a wonderful month with friends visiting and some really fun riding! We had visitors for 22 fun filled days of February. On our last 2 days of riding, Art, Marianne and I rode Wild Burro/Ridgeline and and our classic home trail "around the mountain". Doing some big climbs with temps in the 80"s, made for challenging and to some degree, exhausting last few days in the saddle. No better way to end this stretch of activities. I hope everyone comes back next year, because it was really nice to ride with Jersey folk that love rocks.

I have 2 weeks to rest before our next stretch of visitors arrive. Looking forward to that as well, but happy for a few days off the bike. Thankfully temps should get back into the 70's and 60's by the end of the week, which will be welcomed.

I caught a glimpse of the eclipse this morning around 5:30. My pictures did not come out, so no pictures today. I was glad my bladder woke me up to see it. That's one good thing about getting older and having to pee several times a night, you get to see shit like that.

To continue on the subject of getting older, I have been feeling pretty good and energetic. I have been on HRT for seven months and recently eliminated caffeine and iron supplements. I still like coffee in the morning so I went to decaf. It took a few tries to find an acceptable decaf, but I found one that is ok and I feel better without caffeine most days. Sleep can be an issue, but I have had a stretch of good nights sleep which makes a big difference in how I feel. As a young person I always slept very well. Call me stupid, but I had no idea that the not sleeping thing was hormones. I probably should have been on HRT at 55 instead of waiting until I was 67. Most people can't function without sleep and I'm one of them. So, I am happy to have HRT to support better sleep.

Also my neck seems to be better. The discomfort had started to come back again, but as soon as I increased my riding, it seemed to not be there. It usually is less in technical anyhow. Maybe because I move around a lot. Not sure what is going on, but if it is mostly not there, I will be a very happy mountain biker.

Sorry to bore you with this getting older shit, but managing all this stuff can be the difference between a so-so ride and a kick-ass ride. I thought it might be useful to share on a retirement blog.
