is there a guide on how far up from the base? done this a few times at home for smaller trees but have a few larger in the back I'd like to fall

remember the stump may want to snap back into place - if the the two pieces don't separate, it could be like a loaded spring that will release during the next cut.

Don't cut above chest high - and even that is high.

i'd cut downward without pinching the saw, then come up from the bottom - more gravity powered cutting.

For safety reasons it's not a good idea to work on anything above shoulder height, so this dictates how far up the base you can go. Also you don't want to work too close to the base, because you could still pinch the saw if you are working against gravity.

I did some more work this morning off the Jacques Lane lot on the white trail. Definitely more work to do. I didn’t go crazy with removal. Some trees are able to be pulled out of the snow and pushed back into place with some effort. The white trail was totally shut down in spots.

Did some more work today on white. We are clear from the Jacques lot to just shy of where it meets red.

@jdog have another weird tree - a not so safe broken tree - right by the picnic tables (where the new NICA bridge went in). I cleared enough so the trail is open but didn’t want to tangle with it coming down (on me). A couple pics of it:

Good work, remember I'm back next weekend, expect all this nonsense to be cleared out!

Seriously, looks like another sword of Damocles tree.

this one i can move very easily, but its big and very heavy. i wasn't sure which direction it would want to fall and didn't want to find out solo. its being held up by a 2" thick branch that's half crushed, so its just balanced enough to stay up.

i hope this next storm passes us by. has anyone had a chance to check out the 27 side?

thought i’d try to squeeze in a ride before the thaw...left canal road lot around 1pm and the blue field was actually prett nice...however things started to rapidly deteriorate as the sun beat down...lots of hike-a-bike over some really wet stuff, where i was able to roll over some ruts! a little bit of trail mainaintance and then i bailed at the bridge by blackwells mill...took the road back and rode the towpath for a bit...in a word, yuck

here’s a couple of pix of some of the big stuff that’s down. some of it may have been posted before but these are in daylight!

i think this is the tree that started the chainsaw conversation earlier.
