As many of you know the Crossover (white blaze) section from the Ringwood Ramapo (warm puppy) intersection to Whites road is done and open. So what do YOU want to see done next?

A way from the top of the white trail to the start of the race trail by the lake. There is a trail, maybe green? But it's completely blown up from the pipeline and being in a fall line.

Continue up from Poison Ivy to Piersons Ridge Trail. That would connect the top to bottom with almost 100% single track from lot c or from the school. The image just indicates start and end points, the trail would likely have to switch back several times to get to the top. I saw several orange tags in the woods across from Piersons Ridge so this may already be scheduled

I missed the poll completely, I figured linking all the way to the top had to be on the schedule. That trail is going to be difficult to cut, its almost all tumbled stone but will be well worth the effort.

a top of Pierson to lot C or vise versa would be awesome! would also instead of having just top to bottom trail have some loops that come off the trail and work there way back I.E off skylands, 6 bridges, or even new white trail. i d rather see a new trail from piersons to connect with cannonball. just my 2 cents. thanks for all the hard working building these masterpieces

Always great to hear feedback and suggestions. Suggestions are not ignored, but the park has many restrictions that we need to follow such as: no new trail policy, and no trails built to dead end at trails not opened to bikes. We like to think we have been creative with finding ways around some of these rules that allow us improve the trail system.

Cannonball trail is currently closed to bikes from where it leaves yellow in Ramapo to Bear Swamp. I know many ride this trail/road and the designation is not enforced, but we would have a hard time selling multi-use trail project to connect to that. If Bergen County comes around, that's another story.

As for "no new trails", the crossover (white) is a re-route off a road that is badly eroded. Jorba does not maintain roads, and forest service does not like to close roads, so selling the park on a new trail to get off a road if the road is in good shape, may not fly. The red was a re-route as well. Re-routes must be within 100 feet or we need to submit a proposal that goes through cultural and natural habitat data base. On the red we were forced to follow close to the old trail. On the white we were clear for a new route, which was awesome! That may not happen every time.

The pipeline people are still supposed to clean up, moonscape, plant and open trail crossings this year. They are not allowed to operate heavy machinery when snakes are out. We have our fingers crossed that they complete this in the fall, but I am not holding my breath. Apparently, this is way bigger in scope than our sup has power over.

In the mean time, keep the suggestions and feedback coming in, and please do feel free to come out and get involved in any projects. The more creative thinkers onboard the better!

Ellen, did you hear there is ANOTHER pipeline coming through? Maybe it's only in ramapo, but it's not part of the other pipeline. It's a competing company.

This Poll has been viewed 488 times and only 16 votes!!!!!! Come on people let your voices be heard... I am going out this morning to flag out the 3 sections so we can start working next week. Poll will close on Wednesday... Speak now.

Does this mean there is potential for single track to continue all way to lot C from section 1 of white trail?

I voted....but....if I had a choice.....Right now, I like to ride blue triangle to white dot and then ride white dot....but then you are on fire foads for a while.....extending white dot to the left of the pond avoiding the fire roads would be nice....

trails are getting better but locals ride their quads and trucks on red and other trails.
One of them lives block away from school and claims that it is his backyard and can do what ever he wants. He was not amused that I told him that I will call DEP and was trying to capture him on video. Looks he knows Ringwood police chief.
The same guy with his friends were destroying trails in the winter with 5 lifted trucks/Jeeps.
I spoke with Park Police but I hope something can be done about these people.

Yes, these locals with motorcycles and ATVs are a real problem. I have also tried to talk sense into the ones I have come across, to no avail. What can be done?

Can there be an enduro there? I can think of a few stages: new white, warm puppy, part of skylands into the bottom of the race trail, top of the ringwood-ramapo trail down towards ringwood, catsnest. I just can't think of how to connect them effectively.

Anyway, could be fun and raise a little money...

GTI and Steve,

I ride ATV's as well as mountain bikes. I also ride with people who act the way you describe. To answer your question or formulate a response to your statement, there isn't anything you can do to those types of riders. They will continue doing what they want until something is done to really enforce. It's one thing to ride illegally away from hikers/mountain bikers, it's another to ruin our own experience. I am certified with NJ DEP and they honestly don't do anything but prosecute IF the individuals get caught. Catching them is the problem as I understand police are not allowed to chase all terrain vehicles. To much liability if the rider gets injured or gets into an accident. Maybe someone can chime in on this and confirm. I will be one to admit I have been caught by park police about 12 or so years ago. We went to court and the court pleaded everything down and it came out to just a court fee I had to pay. With all that said, I go to the pocono's these days and pay a season pass at Lost Trails to ride legally.

Getting back on the topic of this thread. I actually like Greek's idea. It would also allow for additional connected loops in my opinion.

I voted for the Six Bridge/Double S fix option for two reasons, a.) the trail is in need of maintenance repair and b.) there has GOT to be better access than straight up & down the fire road.

I agree. I often avoid six bridges for this very reason.

Dollar Hill!?!?!? I thought only me an my riding buddies coined that phrase! Good thing I don't need that money to survive, I'v only made it up that hill clean twice.

ATV's,

I wish we could do more to stop them or give them a legal place to ride. Please do not confront them, If you want to take video or pictures please keep you distance. We are working with the park to help curb their usage of the park...

Enduro,

Is a great idea, I might have put some thought into the idea, ok maybe a lot. But we, Jorba, can not hold any events in the park until the Pipe line is 100% complete.

Trails,

We flagged out a Potential route from Weyble Pond to Pierson ridge road, wow what a ton of work, but it will be awesome. So far we have over 1000 hours into the Crossover, White trail. This next section might be 1200 by itself. So if you have an hour please get out and give us a hand. This week I plan on flagging out reroutes to get rid of......Dollar Hill. These reroute will make a great loop out of Six Bridges..

Volunteer,

If your not a member, joining JORBA is a great idea.... They do so much for mountain biking in the State of NJ. http://www.jorba.org/amember4/signup/index/c/ If you want to build trails in Ringwood or Ramapo, join our mailing list. RingwoodMTB@gmail.com

Love,

Keep the comments coming, love seeing everybody enjoying the work JORBA does in our Parks. Keep the votes coming for our next project. We will post some Saturday and Sunday work dates soon...

Love, NOT so much,

Dirty Thursday is cancelled for 7/17, back on 7/24..
