MTBNJ Races in 2013?

That's awesome to see so many races going on locally!

Unfortunately the official Bulldog Rump date is going to be July 14th 🙁

Tentative Schedule looks like this...

March: 3-5 short track races, with a possible new venue thrown in
July 14th: Stewart Super Six Pack
August 24: Mooch Madness (enduro, 48 or 50 miles)

Looking forward to the ST races this year, but 50 miles of Mooch Madness?...That is going to be awesome! Definitely a priority event for me.

Just a word on the "fun" categories at the Waway XC Race specifically...we really thought that it would be fun to bring in a few different categories that hark back to the old-school mountain bike racing scene. You can just go out and race against your buddies without the specter of having to move up; just the thrill of victory or agony of defeat. There will be some cool "prizes" for these three classes. Come on out and tell your buddies that there is no excuse for not racing.

I love the new categories that mean nothing:

Fat Bike
Clydesdale (must be 200lbs)
Cat 2 Open Outlaw

They are also cheaper to enter, as well as no need for a yearly license...... Perfect for someone not interested in doing a ton of races and actually being competative in the series....

Speaking of conflicts, as I was putting Mooch Madness in my calender, I realized that its the same day as the Rattling Creek 50, which is the finals of the MASS endurance series. That's a tough conflict, as anyone chasing that series will have to be at RC.:cry::cry:

Shit, that sucks

It sure does. Well, Norm did say TENTATIVE dates. It's still early so maybe there's some flexibility on the Mooch race.

The powers that be are discussing this. But the race calendar is filling up pretty quick so there may be some conflicts no matter what. There just aren't enough weeks on the calendar.

The Mooch race has been that weekend for something like 15+ years, with the 1 exception where it was cancelled. I think we want to keep that weekend as-is.

It's just impossible to fit races in with all the conflicts. There's really no way to make it all work, so something has to give one way or another.

Mooch race is set in stone that has been always the same weekend for mooch madness and all of the previous 24hr races before it.

This needs more attention.

i was watching oxford vs poole on sunday on channel 33 (comcast). they ran 19 heats. these races are crazy. body checking each other, one rider got flipped over a fence.

i could see jake doing this in flip flops on beach cruiser.

c'mon gordon. you want to win a silly medal or to be part of something special?

I don't really care about medals, in fact my chances of getting one (or a cool painted rock) are probably better at Mooch. Plus I'm not personally chasing the MASS points this year.
It's all about the riding/racing experience for me. Everyone knows Mooch is awesome and it's local, so it's special to race on trails that I know well. On the other hand, the Rattling Creek trails are incredible...some of the best I've ever ridden, so it special to race somewhere that I never get to ride. It sucks that I can't do both. :hmmm: It will prob. come down to a VTC vote.

I agree that this sucks. But I think we need to stick with the tradition here. It seems like we bend over backwards for every other race venue to make sure there are no conflicts. At some point you have to say, what can you do?

As much as I'd like for the whole VTC crew to do the Mooch race, I understand that the RC trails are indeed awesome. And maybe we lose numbers because of it, IDK. Hopefully this venue doesn't die, but if there's o demand, then there's no demand.
