Tell me where you rode today...

So cute... although it looks like an attempt to pet might result in lost fingers...
Seems all upside to me. What could possibly go wrong?

Friday I was attacked by a pit bull off leash in PA. I think we have the wrong breed behind bars.
Came across a pitbull off leash at Hartshorne last week that was at least 50' from its owner. Thankfully it couldn't care less about me. But as someone who was bit once by an off leash dog, that does did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling as I pedaled by.

It grabbed my rear wheel and pulled me off the bike. Popped the tire. I put the bike between me and him until the owner showed up and they got one heck of a what’s for.

In hindsight I should have made a bigger deal the time I got bit. Cost me a good pair of shorts and trip to medimerge. Not to mention the bit of PTSD every time I encounter an off leash dog, which seems to be every ride.

I’m always torn. In Summit there have been 2 fatal pit bull attacks in the past couple months and then we also have customers with the absolute best pit bulls ever. We also had a customer attacked in Bedminster that pressed charges and spent years in court to have it thrown out in the end, like getting hit by a car, it’s always the cyclist in the wrong 🤷

I understand wolves and hybrids can be quite loving companions... the issue with encountering one (or any dog) behind a fence is the transition from curious to feeling threatened can be extremely quick.

We encountered a couple of off-leash dogs during our ride today. We never really felt threatened by them. One of them was quite rambunctious and we had to stop so the owner could get him under control before we could ride away.

I usually have negative dog encounters while road riding and it seems the speed I'm traveling combined with passing by their home territory will trigger their natural chasing instincts. On a mtn bike trail, they are usually away from their territory so the instinct to defend isn't as strong.

Got a nice ride in between the showers...

...until I had an awkward dismount and jammed/twisted my left knee. Somewhat managed to finish the ride, but it's definitely not good. Currently icing it and planning to call the orthopedic on Monday. I think it's just a sprain as I didn't hear a "pop" and other than pain, it's not swelling. Fingers crossed.

Hope it's nothing serious! Best to let the doctor check it out if it’s still bugging you.

it feels about the same today. Unless there is some amazing level of improvement tomorrow, I'll absolutely be calling my orthopedic to get an appointment ASAP. Mostly because I've paid for a trip to Africa (Namibia) in late July so I need to do whatever is necessary to get the knee ready for that. Right now, I basically can't walk without a serious limp.
