What have you done to your bike today?

I've begun the super anxiety (my own anxious crazy) choice making before I will be entering new/unknown to me territory in the form of, atleast I hope it'll be a even more capable bike. Operating from what I've experienced so far on a bike that falls in the less capable category of "trail capable". It dawned on me that I might be taking the farewell voyage on it in the next week or two.

Unless the weather changes suddenly I'm fairly certain I'll be heading out to ride and get lost in allaire earlier in the day. Ill be rolling solo so if you see someone who looks lost with a black fox speed frame and who seems to be missing a brake lever (and the one that's not missing is going in the wrong direction) then it'll likely be me, because I'm most likely lost. My face will likely appear to say go away but that's just my face. If your feeling up to providing any direction or letting me follow with (I won't be anyones anchor if can't follow along don't pay any mind and continue to truck on. 🤝

Also separate from The bike that I mentioned in the beginning of the post. If anybody 's. Possibly interested in procuring a new unique stable piece I'm looking to rehome a 87 specialized Street stomper hit me up directly if so or wanting to hear

Pulling the cassette (TRP Evo) on the gravel rig today. Got a persistent creak under higher power, narrowed it down to something on the back end. I've already pulled the BB, taken apart and threadlocked the crank, and it's definitely not the seatpost. That it's doing it under heavier loads makes me think cassette. Having no experience with troubleshooting this brand, any insights are appreciated.

To quote a famous guitarist: “It’s always the chainring.” I was skeptical myself until I installed a new chainring… noise gone!

I'm familiar with that guitarist and can't say I disagree. But I have a witness that said it definitely sounded like it was in the back. I'll play a few chords on the repair I did and see how it sounds

Installed and bedded the brakes pads in. Quiet compared to the TRP resin pads. Also seems to have better stopping power.

I'm still working through the rear set, but I switched back to Shimano metal in the front. It has the ultimate pucker stop that I feel like the MTX pads just don't have. I will grant that the MTX pads are way quieter with most of the same power. To be fair, I see why racey people tend to gravitate towards the resin/ceramic compounds, as they tend to be consistent from application to release.

Incidentally, I've also switched away from the finned brake pads, because I feel like they just don't heat up enough in our area. If I head to real elevation (extended downhills), I'll consider adding them back in.
